The President was called by Prime Minister Gandhi concerning the
Fourth of July holiday.
The President and Prime Minister Gandhi exchanged greetings with
the Prime Minister congratulating the President on the Fourth of
July.
The President noted how nice it was for the Prime Minister to call
and that the President and his family were enjoying the holiday.
Prime Minister Gandhi said he was calling since this was the
President's first Fourth of July as President and that it is an
important day for all democracies.
The President said how very, very much he appreciated the call and
that he would tell our people about the Prime Minister's
congratulatory call.
Prime Minister Gandhi noted how our Founding Fathers had a great
impact on the Indian constitution.
The President asked how things were at home.
Prime Minister Gandhi noted things were okay and mentioned how
helpful the recent visit of the Indian Defense Minister to the
U.S. had been.
The President noted his pleasure with the Defense Minister's visit
and passed on a greeting from Mrs. Bush.
Prime Minister Gandhi passed on greeting to Mrs. Bush from he and
his wife Sonja.

The President indicated he was looking forward to having the Prime
Minister visit the U.S. and asked if he would be coming to the UN
in the fall.
Prime Minister Gandhi noted that this timeframe would be difficult
due to elections, but noted he would like to meet with the
President in Paris.
The President said he would look forward to meeting the Prime
Minister in Paris and thanked him for his thoughtful phone call.
The President and Prime Minister exchanged goodbyes.
