Barbara and I want to thank you for the tremendous efforts you made to make this visit so successful. I know from experience how much goes into trips like this -- and I want you to know, we appreciate it. Any American embassy -- anywhere in the world -- has a great responsibility to serve American interests, carry out U.S. programs and initiatives, and keep the Secretary of State and me well informed about new developments. * But this embassy is particularly important right now. You have been living and working through extraordinary times here in Poland. And your performance amid the turbulence and excitement of recent months has been outstanding. * You have been here, not simply as witnesses, but as active agents of change -- as Poland conducts its great experiment in democracy. You understand that the present ferment of political and economic reforms can unleash the enterprise and creativity of a great people. * Mr. Ambassador, Mrs. Davis -- you have a first-rate group of people here, holding up the best traditions of government service. Your professional dedication is helping us move forward, to support democracy in Poland, and strengthen relations between the governments and peoples of Poland and the United States. * Keep up the fine work. Thank you. And God bless you. . orange Gag- Grown rycon 000 FINAL PRESIDENTIAL TALKING POINTS: POLISH EMBASSY COMMUNITY WARSAW, POLAND TUESDAY, JULY 11, 1989 * It's WONDERFUL TO BE HERE AGAIN -- AND TO SEE SO MANY FAMILIAR FACES. * BARBARA AND I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE TREMENDOUS EFFORTS YOU MADE TO MAKE THIS VISIT SO SUCCESSFUL.
