PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
B.A.S.S. MASTERS CLASSIC
Hello Ray and all my fellow B-A-S-S members. It's a
pleasure to join you for this year's weigh-in at the BASS MASTERS
CLASSIC. After three days of casting and dragging spinners and
spoons through the water, I'm sure there's a lot of tension out
there. But, for those of you who don't win, just remember.
There's always next year, and there's always the one that got
away.
For most of us, the real joy of fishing is not winning
tournaments but spending time with family and friends out on the
water. I've often said the time spent fishing shouldn't be
counted against one's time here on earth. And it's with a rod
and reel that I tend to count my blessings, especially if I'm out
there with one of our grandkids or with Barbara -- the only woman
on Earth who can read and bass fish at the same time
while
catching every word, and every fish. (SMILE)
But, I also want to commend every member of B-A-S-S MASTERS
for your concern and conservation of the environment. We all
know that the health of our sport lies in preserving clean rivers
and streams. And, thanks to your efforts, we will maintain this
wonderful sport for future generations.
Thank you for including me in this year's weigh-in. If I
were there this weekend, with my lucky rod of course, the outcome
2
might have been different. (PAUSE & SMILE) Well, on second
thought, maybe not.
Thank you, God bless you all, and best of luck to all the
contenders.

PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
JAYCEES 44TH WORLD CONGRESS
Good evening! I am honored to join you, the delegates of
the Junior Chamber International, at your 1989 World Congress.
Your conference has two themes this year: "Jaycees, Young People
for World Peace" and "Jaycees, Making it Happen". These two
themes bring to mind what is so unique about your organization; a
total commitment to developing leadership through active
volunteerism and community service. You make things happen, and
I believe your work toward world peace will make a difference.
For almost seventy years, first in the United States and now
around the world, you have encouraged and honored young men and
women who give generously and become outstanding business and
community leaders around the world. Your generation will lead us
into the 21st Century and beyond. Through your interaction at
international gatherings like this one, you help bring about
better understanding between peoples and nations. Your efforts,
now and in the future, will help ensure international
cooperation, economic interaction and above all, world peace. I
commend and encourage each and every one of you. To paraphrase
your founder, Henry Giessenbier [GEES EN beer], "in your hands
lies the destiny of a great organization".
God bless you all. God bless your endeavors, and God bless
the United States of America.

PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
PROJECT OUTREACH
Crack. Dope. Heroin. Cocaine. Words we hear all too
often on the streets and in the classrooms. Words made more
painful by the knowledge that right now -- somewhere in America
-- someone is being targeted by a drug dealer. It could be
happening at a school, a playground, or an office. We're in a
fight for the future of this nation. And if we're going to win,
we need your help.
As always, the brave men and women of our law enforcement
agencies are doing a tremendous job in this struggle. But, it's
time for all of us to work together. That's why the Treasury
Department's Project Outreach is so critical.
Project Outreach is designed to reduce the demand for
illegal drugs by uniting all of us -- concerned citizens and law
enforcement personnel -- in a partnership to tell all Americans,
young and old, about drug abuse so we can put a stop to it now.
Project Outreach is part of the new spirit of cooperation
sweeping America. We must spread the word that every American is
responsible for stopping drug abuse. No longer is it someone
else's problem -- it's everyone's problem. And, with Project
Outreach we have a better chance of winning this war. If we're
ever going to "stop this scourge" it's going to take nothing less
than a total commitment. Let us all join together and meet this

challenge -- as Americans, as partners to end this siege and win
the war on drugs.
Thank you, and God bless you all.

Title: HILLMAN
PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
HENRY HILLMAN - BUSINESS LEADER OF THE YEAR
Henry, congratulations! I'm so pleased that the
Pennsylvania Chamber is honoring you this evening with their
Business Leader of the Year Award. I know it's richly deserved,
and Barbara joins me in sending along our best wishes to you and
Elsie.
A few months ago, I called on this country's business
leaders to get involved with their communities. I asked
corporate CEOs and executives to take a look at problems right
down the block. Problems that lie within their reach. I also
asked them to use their knowledge, their resources and their time
to help solve these problems. I asked them to make a difference.
Well, Henry, I know this call to action didn't come as any
surprise to you, because you've made a difference all your life.
With your hard work for Children's Hospital and the University of
Pittsburgh, you've served your community with distinction. And
through the efforts of the Hillman Foundation, you embody the
community caring and involvement so important to this country.
You understand that, in today's business world, to be successful
means more than developing a solid investment strategy or a
creative marketing campaign. As I have said so often, "From now
2
on in America, any definition of a successful life must include
serving others."
Henry, you're a model not only to those gathered tonight,
but to countless others. And I'm proud to call you "friend".
Congratulations again on this special occasion. Thank you, have
a great evening, and God bless you all.

Good morning to all the students and teachers in school

INTERAGENCY COUNCIL ON THE HOMELESS
Good Afternoon. All of you gathered for this workshop are
part of the solution to homelessness. As homeless service
providers, advocates, local, state and federal officials, I
applaud your joint efforts to help end the suffering of the
homeless.
I am grateful to the Interagency Council on the Homeless for
putting together this gathering. Your Council is the focal point
of the Federal Government's efforts to help solve the plight of
the homeless. I look to your Chairmen, Secretary Kemp and
Secretary Sullivan to provide leadership for the Interagency
Council. Its that leadership and your commitment, that will help
make the dreams of the homeless a reality. To do that, we must
do more to eliminate the causes of homelessness and a united
Interagency Council can make it possible. We all want to see the
day when homeless people have jobs, homes, health care and
opportunity. Your work paves the way for all Americans to help
the homeless find a place to work, live and love. We all know
that public resources are necessary but we also know that
dedication and volunteerism are essential to help those most in
need. It takes "one on one" caring to truly "love thy neighbor".
Thank you for your commitment to work together to truly meet

There's always next year, and there's always the one that got
away.
For most of us, the real joy of fishing is not winning

counted against one's time here on earth. And it's with a rod

there with one of our grandkids or with Barbara -- the only woman
on Earth who can read and bass fish at the same time
while
catching every word, and every fish. (SMILE)
But, I also want to commend every member of B-A-S-S MASTERS
for your concern and conservation of the environment. We all
know that the health of our sport lies in preserving clean rivers

wonderful sport for future generations.
Thank you for including me in this year's weigh-in. If I

Well, Henry, I know this call to action didn't come: as any
surprise to you, because you've made a difference all your life.
As I have said so often, "From now
2
on in America, any definition of a successful life must include
serving others. "
Henry, you're a model not only to those gathered tonight,
but to countless others. And I'm proud to call you "friend".
Congratulations again on this special occasion. Thank you, have
a great evening, and God bless you all.
