PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
FOR THE ARMED FORCES CHRISTMAS GREETING
Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah. Happy New Year. It's the
time of year for peace and goodwill and we Americans are
fortunate enough to be entering the final decade of this century
within a new era of peace and goodwill around the world.
But it has been hard earned. This century has seen two
World Wars and two painful conflicts through which the
patriotism, courage and skills of the men and women of our armed
forces have been crucial. It is your readiness and willingness
to make whatever sacrifice is needed to preserve our precious
liberty, that makes all Americans proud and thankful of your
service.
Barbara and I send our warmest wishes to you and your
families for a joyous holiday season, and a new year filled with
health, happiness, and prosperity. And, we send a very special
holiday greeting to all of you whose assignments keep you away
from home and your loved ones for the holidays. You will be in
our thoughts and prayers.
God bless you all and God bless the United States of

EAGLE FORUM LEADERSHIP COUNCIL
Good evening friends, and I do mean friends. Barbara and I
always feel at home with volunteers who have accepted the
challenge to donate their time, talents, and energies to their
neighbors and country.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your
dedicated work on the 1988 campaign and for all the work you
continue to do to help elect pro-family candidates at every level
of government.
I appreciate your strong support on so many important
principles and policies of this administration -- your commitment
to no tax increases and easing the child care burden on families
without discriminating against the mother who stays home. And
also for your commitment to provide America's children with an
outstanding education and to give parents a choice in their
children's school. And, of course, your commitment to preserve
the sanctity of life.
The Eagle Forum volunteers, led by Phyllis Schlafly, set a
high standard making invaluable contributions to the political
process across the country and the advance of public policy. We
know we can count on your dedication and leadership in the years
ahead. Thank you for all you're doing to help America, the
greatest nation on earth.

PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
GERMAN-AMERICAN DAY
German-American Day 1989 is a celebration of the 306th
Anniversary of the arrival in Philadelphia of the first German
immigrants on the English Schooner "Concord" in 1683. Though 300
years of immeasurable contributions, German-Americans like
Friedrich-Wilhelm Von Steuben (SHTOY-BEN) -- the man George
Washington put in charge of training his troops -- Albert
Einstein and Werner Von Braun, have helped make America great.
Beyond the contributions of German-Americans, German-
American Day has a special significance. This year marks the
40th birthday of the Federal Republic of Germany. It was America
who helped lift Germany from the near-total destruction of World
War Two and helped nurture German democracy and it was the German
people themselves who built, in the ruins of war, a vibrant
democracy that today makes a major contribution to peace and
freedom in the world. Today, Germany is a trusted ally and a
partner in leadership.
To honor the powerful bond that has grown between us over
the years, Congress has designated October 6, 1989 as "German
American Day" and I am issuing a proclamation to observe it. On
"German American Day" all Americans can think of the great
contributions Germans have made to the United States and remember

Thanksgiving
PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
FOR THE ARMED FORCES THANKSGIVING GREETING
Thanksgiving Day is a time to give thanks for the blessings
and bountiful harvest of the past year. It is also a time for
family, turkey, and mashed potatoes and gravy!
At the first Thanksgiving back in 1621, the Pilgrims of the
Plymouth colony gave thanks not only for surviving a bitter
winter and reaping a fine harvest but for the freedom they had
gained in the new world.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving this year, we are grateful that
our nation is at peace and that the winds of democracy are
blowing across much of the world. For this, all Americans thank
you, the brave men and women in uniform for your commitment to
preserving peace and defending our nation. It is your eternal
vigilance that makes our cherished heritage of freedom the dream
of people in many nations who aspire to live under the freedoms
we have enjoyed since our first Thanksgiving.
We know many of you are far from your loved ones on this
special holiday and that's not easy. But, Barbara and I (PAUSE)
and all Americans send you our warmest wishes and our heartfelt
appreciation for your constant courage and devotion to the
democratic principles of our great nation. God bless you. God
bless your families, and God bless the United States of America.

PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
CONGRESSMAN SILVIO CONTE
Good Evening. I sure wish I could have joined you this
evening and also for the Columbus Day Celebration Parade. I know
you are honoring my good friend Silvio Conte as Grand Marshall.
Well, you couldn't have made a better choice.
Thirty-one years ago, the people of western Massachusetts
elected a dynamic, young four-term State Senator from the
Berkshires to the United States Congress. The son of Italian
immigrants, Silvio Conte from his early years, has forged his way
with a die-hard work ethic and commitment to causes close to his
heart. As the Ranking Republican member of the powerful House
Appropriations Committee, Congressman Conte has established
himself as a tireless proponent of improved opportunities for all
Americans, especially in the areas of health, education,
employment and human services.
Today you honor this outstanding Congressman by choosing him
to become one of fourteen Members of Congress to serve on the
Christopher Columbus Quincentennary Commission. Through the
efforts of people like Congressman Conte, the spirit of
Christopher Columbus lives on to inspire each new generation.

PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
INTERSTATE NATURAL GAS ASSOCIATION
Good morning. I'm pleased to welcome you to the 45th Annual
Meeting of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America. I
know many of my friends from the oil and gas industry are in the
audience today. I'd like to extend a special greeting to Ken
Lay, the outgoing chairman of INGAA, and his lovely wife Linda.
The theme of this year's INGAA Annual Meeting is the 1990s
as the decade of opportunity for natural gas to meet the energy
and environmental needs of our nation. You could hardly have
chosen a more timely or appropriate topic. You know of my belief
in the importance of a sound energy policy based on plentiful and
secure domestic fuel sources, and my conviction that natural gas
can and should play a major part in the development of that
policy. Domestic natural gas can not only help us reduce our
dependence on energy imports -- it can help clean the environment
as well.
I know that you are excited by the prospects for natural gas
in the 1990s, and I'm pleased the gas industry has been able to
put aside some of its historical differences and work together to
seize those opportunities. The support of all segments of the
industry was essential in passing the legislation that ended 35
years of government control of natural gas prices. I thank you
for your support of that initiative and also for your endorsement
of this administration's clean air proposals. Clean-burning

Best wishes for a successful Annual Meeting. Thank you.

FOR THE SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Good Morning. Its a pleasure to be with you today to
celebrate this milestone for the Service Corps of Retired
Executives. On your 25th Anniversary, let me tell you how much I
appreciate the work you have done and will continue to do through
SCORE.
In these last 25 years, the men and women of SCORE have
grown from just a few volunteers to a force of 13,000. SCORE has
counseled and trained more than 3 million small business owners.
In countless cases, you have made the difference between a small
business success, and a small business failure.
I don't need to tell you how important small businesses are
to our country's economic prosperity, and to our future. If you
didn't share my conviction about the importance of small
businesses, you'd probably be spending your retirement in more
leisurely pursuits.
Instead, you and your predecessors in SCORE, volunteer your
time and energy to pass along your knowledge and lifetimes of
experience from your own careers. The entrepreneurs of today and
tomorrow will continue to count on your help and willingness to
share it freely.
On behalf of the American people, thank you and
congratulations for these 25 years of service. God bless the
work you do and my best to all of you for the next 25.

2
natural gas, used in such technologies as co-firing of utility
boilers can significantly improve the nation's environmental
quality.
I'm sorry my schedule didn't permit me to attend your
meeting personally, but I know you have a distinguished line-up
of speakers to address the many issues of concern to you all.
Best wishes for a successful Annual Meeting. Thank you.

The Eagle Forum volunteers, led by Phyllis Schlafly, set a
high standard making invaluable contributions to the political
process across the country and to the advance of public policy-
making. We know we can count on your dedication and leadership
in the years ahead. Thank you for all you're doing to help
America, the greatest nation on earth.

God bless you all and God bless the United States of

Christmas
PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
FOR THE ARMED FORCES CHRISTMAS GREETING
Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah. Happy New Year. Its the
time of year for peace and goodwill and we Americans are
fortunate enough to be entering the final decade of this century
within a new era of peace and goodwill around the world.
But it has been hard earned. This century has seen two
World Wars and two painful conflicts through which the
patriotism, courage and skills of the men and women of our armed
forces has been crucial. It is your readiness and willingness to
make whatever sacrifice is needed to preserve our precious
liberty, that makes all Americans proud and thankful of your
God bless you all and God bless the United States of
America.

German
PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
GERMAN-AMERICAN DAY
German-American Day 1989 is a celebration of the 306th
Anniversary of the arrival in Philadelphia of the first German
immigrants on the English Schooner "Concord" in 1683. Though 300
years of immeasurable contributions, German-Americans like
Friedrich-Wilhelm Von Steuben (SHTOY-BEN) -- the man George
Washington put in charge of training his troops -- Albert
Einstein and Werner Von Braun, have helped make America great.
Beyond the contributions of German-Americans, German-
American Day has a special significance. October 6, 1989 marks
the 40th birthday of the Federal Republic of Germany. It was
America who helped lift Germany from the near-total destruction
of World War Two and helped nurture German democracy. Today,
Germany is a partner in leadership working with us as we work for
peace and freedom around the world.
To honor the powerful bond that has grown between us over
the years, Congress has designated October 6, 1989 as "German
American Day" and I am issuing a proclamation to observe it. On
"German American Day" all Americans can think of the great
contributions Germans have made to the United States and remember
the common values Germany and America share.

Conte
Today you honor this outstanding Congressman by chosing him
to become one of fourteen Members of Congress to serve on the
Christopher Columbus Quincentennial Commission. Through the
efforts of people like Congressman Conte, the spirit of
Christopher Columbus lives on to inspire each new generation.
Congratulations Silvio and all the best for the Columbus Day
Celebration Parade.
