PROPOSED PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE TO BE PUBLISHED
IN SUNDAY EDITIONS OF THE ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT
TO THE CHILDREN OF ARKANSAS:
Recently, I spoke on television to many of the schools in
America and I hope you were able to watch. I talked about the
friends I made when I was a baseball player in school. We
trusted each other, and I learned that the kind of people you
make your friends can make you stronger -- and make you a better
person. But there are others, who may seem like your friends,
but they're not. They are the ones who offer you drugs.
Many of you already make the right decision and turn down
drugs. But some kids take drugs -- and these are the ones whose
future is in jeopardy. Most of you know the dangers of drugs
and what happens to people who use them. Most of you already
know about the violence, desperation and hopelessness of drug
use.
But if you're in trouble with drugs, or you know someone who
is, I'm asking you to get help. I'm also asking you to find
someone who needs you -- and help them. So if you're not in
trouble, seek out someone who is.
We are all here to make a difference. Start counting on
your true friends, and take care of each other. Together, we can
stop drugs.
