PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS
Good morning. It's a pleasure to be back with you again,
this time in San Francisco.
I'm sure that you'll agree, it's both an exciting and
challenging time to be in education. Last fall I called
together, the Nation's governors for an Education Summit -- the
first of its kind in our history. And, we agreed that, the time
had come to establish clear national performance goals, goals
that will make us internationally competitive. And we did just
that when I announced our six education goals in my State of the
Union speech last month. By the turn of the century, all
children in America will start school ready to learn. We will
increase the percentage of students graduating from high school
to at least ninety percent. We will check the progress of
American students in grades four, eight, and twelve. By the year
2000, our students will be the first in the world in science and
mathematics. Every adult will be literate, and finally every
school in America will be free of drugs and violence while
offering a disciplined environment conducive to learning.
Ambitious goals, it's true. And they won't be easily
achieved. But, if we're going to ensure every child in America
the chance to succeed, if America is going to maintain its
leadership role in the world, together we must meet these goals.
Your convention theme -- "Leadership with Vision" --
2
reflects your commitment to this effort and the Nation's young
people. As a society, we depend on your leadership and vision,
and your inspiration to guide them through the coming decade and
into the next century. Simply put, each of you will help
determine the future course of this Nation.
Thank you for all you do. Have a successful meeting, and
God bless you all.

PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE
ALABAMA HALL OF FAME AND RAY SCOTT
Greetings to all my friends in Alabama and thanks to you
Larry and the Board of Directors of the Alabama Sports Hall of
Fame for inviting me to share a few moments with you and your
guests.
It's wonderful to join you as you honor my good friend and
fishing companion Ray Scott, and induct six outstanding athletes
into your Hall of Fame.
I'm sure that each of tonight's inductees is proud to join
this Alabama institution -- a society whose membership reads like
a roll call of legendary athletes. "Bear" Bryant, Hank Aaron,
"Shug" Jordan (( JER-DEN )), Jesse Owens, Willie Mays, and Bart
Starr. Hall of Famers all, they prompt memories of great feats
and events in almost every sport.
And that's the same for this year's illustrious class.
Former "Iron Bowl" coaching rivals Pat Dye of Auburn and Ray
Perkins of Alabama. The excitable "Wimp" Sanderson and
unforgettable Lindy Hood from Alabama basketball, stock car racer
Red Farmer and of course, a great name from baseball's past --
former Detroit Tigers star Jimmy Outlaw. Each a great athlete,
they've all earned their place as "legends of the game."
And
the same is true about Ray Scott. He's a proud Alabamian, a
grand sportsman and most of all a good friend. Every time we set
out to cut into the bass population in Pintlala, I think we talk
2
about as much as we fish. Especially the last time we were
together. As many of you can recall, we had a little trouble
catching much of anything. But, I understand that Larry was able
to land "the one that got away" and brought it here tonight.
Thanks Ray, for the wonderful hours we've spent together and
congratulations on your honor tonight.
And, now, Larry has a presentation to make. Thank you, and
have a great evening.

PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGES FOR
THE 1992 QUINCENTENNIAL EXPOSITION IN SEVILLE AND GENOA
Message # 1 - SEVILLE
In 1492 Christopher Columbus set out on a voyage of
discovery that would change the world. In 1992 at the Seville
World's Fair, more than 100 nations will celebrate the 500th
anniversary of that daring adventure. The U.S. pavilion in
Seville, Spain -- the country where Columbus launched his voyage
to the new world -- will be a place to show America's spirit of
adventure and discovery. The front door of our Pavilion will be
the front door to America. Visitors will be treated to a
spectacular look at our past, present, and future, with
exhibitions that represent the energy and genius of our people.
And because 1992 marks the target date for full economic
integration of the European Community, this exposition will open
up unparalleled business opportunities. The U.S. welcomes this
chance to promote trade, tourism and investment as never before.
As we approach the 21st century and move toward a greater
economic integration, we must demonstrate our international
competitiveness. Events in Europe in 1992 will be instrumental
in shaping America's trade policies and will test our ability to
compete in world markets into the year 2000 and beyond.
Seville Expo '92 offers exciting prospects for us all. I
hope you'll make it to Seville and help the world rediscover the
great American competitive spirit. Thank you and God bless you
all.

our part, at the Genoa Expo '92, the United States will present
an exhibition that shows the energy and genius of America.
And because 1992 marks the target date for full economic

PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE FOR
THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM VIDEO TRAINING TAPE
I welcome this opportunity to thank all of you in the
communications industry for your continuing voluntary
contributions to the Emergency Broadcast System.
In a national emergency, it is essential that the President
is able to speak with the American people on very short notice.
Working together under EBS, the broadcast networks and stations,
cable and telephone industries, and wire services, provide this
critical capability.
I am proud of the successful cooperation between government
and industry that you have developed within the EBS. It is an
outstanding example of just how effective government and
industry, working together, can be -- cooperating, in this case,
to create and sustain the Emergency Broadcast System. So, let me
thank the American communications industry for voluntarily
providing this important service. You are truly a vital national
asset. You have the thanks of all Americans and this President
for your generous public service.
Keep up the good work, thank you and God bless you all.

SUGGESTED PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO FOR THE PRINCE OF WALES BUSINESS
LEADERSHIP FORUM -- FEBRUARY 20, 1990 (CHARLESTON, S.C.)
1990 FEB -8 PM 7: 34
I want to welcome business leaders from North America,
Europe and the Pacific who have come to Charleston to discuss the
increasingly important role that corporations can play in the
world in which you do business.
I welcome this initiative by his Royal Highness the Prince
of Wales. For some time, I have known of his deep personal
interest in the role of business in the community. I know of the
hope and opportunity that many of his initiatives bring to
younger people in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in the world.
I believe that business is a powerful force for improvement
in our own society and in the developing democracies around the
world. In fact, by engaging in community problem-solving
business can help face the critical social challenges in our
world today.
I firmly believe that being responsive to the needs of
communities in areas such as educational excellence, youth
development and environmental protection is good for business.
Often, I speak of "points of light" -- individuals,
businesses, groups and organizations of all sizes that are making
a positive difference in the communities in which they live. I
believe in the innate desire of every individual and every group
and organization to be involved in helping others in need. As we
enter the new century, we must work together to multiply and
magnify "points of light" everywhere.
I hope that while you are in Charleston you will get a real
sense of what can be achieved by one American community with
strong leadership determined to regenerate and conserve its
quality of life.
Thank you for your interest and commitment to help build a
better America.

that when I announced our six education goals in my State of the
Union speech last month. By the turn of the century, all
children in America will start school ready to learn. We will
increase the percentage of students graduating from high school
to at least ninety percent. We will check the progress of
American students in grades four, eight, and twelve. By the year
2000, our students will be the first in the world in science and
mathematics. Every adult will be literate, and ) finally every
school in America will be free of drugs and violence while
offering a disciplined environment conducive to learning.
Ambitious goals, it's true. And they won't be easily
achieved. But, if we're going to ensure every child in America
the chance to succeed, if America is going to maintain its
leadership role in the world, together we must meet these goals.

people. As a society, we depend on your leadership and vision,
