October 29, 1990
Dear Pioneer Press Reader:
Americans traditionally come together in times of adversity and
challenge. The present conflict in the Middle East is no
exception. In the face of tyranny, America and the world are
standing up to aggression, condemning the violence and plunder of
Kuwait by the forces of Saddam Hussein. I am proud to see so
many Americans from Evanston, to Bloomington, to Springfield, --
all across Illinois -- doing their part to show our servicemen
and women in the Persian Gulf how much we care. I want to
congratulate the Pioneer Press and its readers for the vital role
you are playing in this critical time.
This crisis has shown us once again that naked aggression cannot
be allowed to stand, and it also demonstrates the need to reduce
our dependency on foreign oil. We must responsibly develop our
domestic energy resources including our diverse and abundant
alternative energy sources. Increasing dependence on foreign oil
is simply not a viable solution to America's energy challenges.
As you know, increased domestic energy production and
conservation are integral parts of our strategy to reduce
dependence on foreign oil. And the efficient use of existing
resources, coupled with innovative research in the areas of coal,
natural gas, hydroelectric power, nuclear and other sources of
power, will go a long way toward protecting our environment, as
well as making America a more energy-secure nation.
If more newspapers and readers like yours would take
action -- become involved in efforts to promote energy
efficiency, this country would be better off. You are making a
difference in your community and your nation. You have shown
that the determined and creative spirit of the American people is
as strong as ever. Congratulations on your commitment to a
better America and a better world. Thank you and God bless you.

congratulate the Pioneer Press and its readers for the vital role
you are playing in this critical time.
This crisis has shown us once again that naked aggression
cannot be allowed to stand, and it also demonstrates the need to
reduce our dependency on foreign oil. We must responsibly
develop our domestic energy resources including our diverse and
abundant alternative energy sources. Increasing dependence on
foreign oil is simply not a viable solution to America's energy
challenges.

Dear Pioneer Press Reader:
90 OCT 24 PM
Americans traditionally come together in times of adversity
and challenge.
I want to
