THROUGH: SIG ROGICH FROM: BARRIE TRON P.O. SUBJECT: SCRIPTS FOR THE DECEMBER 19 FILMING SESSION I. SUMMARY Attached for your consideration and review are draft scripts for your filming session on December 19. You are scheduled to film two segments and, please note, there are no time constraints on the length of each script. II. DISCUSSION At 10:15 am on Wednesday, December 19, 1990, you are scheduled to film two separate messages for 1) Walt Disney World's Christmas Day Parade and, 2) a tribute dinner for Governor Henry Bellmon of Oklahoma. Please note that we will be applying light make-up before this session. Tron Draft two December 14, 1990 Title: Disney PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY CHRISTMAS PARADE Good morning. On behalf of Barbara and the whole Bush family, it's a great pleasure to wish everyone enjoying this wonderful parade a very merry Christmas. What a joyful, hopeful day this is for everyone. A day to gather with family and friends, and share the warmth of quiet fires and the joyous spirit of the holiday season. But, let's remember that there are those watching this morning who are unable to enjoy this special day with their loved ones: the families whose mothers or fathers, sisters or brothers, are serving their country in the uniform of our Armed Forces in the Persian Gulf. To those families whose dinner table is missing a loved one far, far from home, let's remember that the courage, commitment and sacrifice of these men and women is based on nothing less than a love of country and a desire for world peace. Their mission -- not only speaks to the spirit of Christmas -- but to the hopes of mankind as well. And to those outstanding Americans under the banners of our Armed Forces, Barbara and I extend warm personal wishes and our sincere gratitude for the sacrifices you make in spending time away from the people who mean the most to you -- your families. Words alone cannot describe how proud this President and your country is of each and every one of you. This Christmas, let us pray for peace on earth. For the safe return of all our military troops. And let us give thanks to the families who wait so patiently. A blessed and joyous Christmas to you all. And an early New Year wish of happiness and harmony to our world. Thank you, and God bless you all. # # # Draft two December 14, 1990 Title: Bellmon PROPOSED VIDEO MESSAGE GOVERNOR BELLMON TRIBUTE DINNER Good evening. It's great to be in the "Sooner State" for this special tribute to one of Oklahoma's greatest public servants -- Henry Bellmon. Henry, congratulations for this fitting tribute. In over thirty years of service to Oklahoma, you've distinguished yourself as a champion of working men and women of not only Oklahoma, but to the Nation as well. Throughout your remarkable career, you've had the courage to stand up for your convictions and have never been afraid to meet the challenges of the day. And it's only fitting that we're celebrating this special evening at Central High School. It reminds us all of your commitment to education and your concern for the next generation. But, service to state and country is only one of the many qualities we salute tonight. As we all aware, its your compassion for others, your willingness to find lasting solutions to today's toughest problems that has also distinguished your career. And, Henry, on a more personal note, Barbara and I owe you a great deal of thanks for your friendship through the years. Your dedication, and your loyalty has really made a difference to the Bush family. And, your strong support has been a great asset to me as President. Henry, have a great time in retirement. Shirley, don't expect this man to slow down. He'll find another challenge, another cause. Whether it's working on the ranch, or speaking out on issues he believes in, Henry Bellmon will continue to be a strong voice in Oklahoma. Thank you for including me in this special evening. Henry, and Shirley, all the best in this new year. God bless you both, and God bless the great state of Oklahoma. # # # 9836 Document No. 199007 WHITE HOUSE STAFFING MEMORANDUM 90 DEC 18 P8: 20 DATE: 12/17/90 ACTION/CONCURRENCE/COMMENT DUE BY: NOON 12/18 SUBJECT: PRESIDENTIAL TAPING: WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY CHRISTMAS PARADE (12/14 draft two) ACTION FYI ACTION FYI VICE PRESIDENT MCCLURE SUNUNU NEWMAN SCOWCROFT PORTER DARMAN ROGICH CARD UNTERMEYER CICCONI ROGERS DEMAREST PINKERTON FITZWATER WINSTON GRAY HAGIN HOLIDAY REMARKS: Please provide any comments/recommendations directly to Chriss Winston by Noon on Tuesday, 12/18, with a copy to my office.
