PRESIDENT:
Yes, I was in the third grade at the time. /// No,
seriously, I'm sure I speak for all Americans when
I tell you that you've made a big difference to a
lot of people serving their country far from home.
And I think it's great that this time you're going
to have a chance to entertain some of our forces
at home.
HOPE:
It really is wonderful to have them back in the
USA. And you're right, Dolores and I feel that
this Yellow Ribbon Party is something truly
special.
PRESIDENT:
They certainly deserve it, and I just wish that I
could be there in person. But, please give them
my best. We're all very proud of them and
grateful for what they did. And it's great to see
them back home again.
HOPE:
Thank you, Mr. President.

PROPOSED VIDEO TAPING
"BOB HOPE'S YELLOW RIBBON PARTY"
HOPE:
Mr. President, I haven't spoken to you since you
called us on the plane on the way home from Saudi
Arabia.
PRESIDENT:
It's the only time I know where to reach you.
Christmas time on a plane coming back from seeing
the troops -- or on the golf course.
HOPE:
Please, never call me on the golf course.
PRESIDENT:
I promise. Now, how many Christmases have you
spent with the Armed Forces in the last forty-
three years?
HOPE:
Lots of years, and I've loved every minute.
PRESIDENT:
Well, I know it means a great deal to them and
always has. You've boosted the morale of our
troops from World War II to Desert Storm. I
remember when you first started this, at March
Field.
HOPE:
Really, you remember that?
