It's PROBABLY A GOOD THING THAT I COULDN'T JOIN YOU
ON THE LINKS TODAY -- IT SEEMS I SPEND MORE TIME IN
THE SAND THAN LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. //
AFTER I TEE OFF, THEY DON'T HAVE To REPLACE THE
TURF -- THEY HAVE TO RE-TURF THE PLACE. //
ACTUALLY, I WON'T TELL YOU HOW DEEP MY DIVOTS ARE
-- BUT YOU'RE WRONG IF YOU THINK RICHARD NIXON HAD
THE FIRST OPENING TO CHINA. //

It's GREAT TO SEE so MANY OF YOU SUPPORTING THE
NATIONAL REHABILITATION HOSPITAL. You KNOW,
THEY'VE BEEN TREATING PATIENTS FROM ACROSS AMERICA
AND AROUND THE WORLD FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW -- IN
FACT, THIS YEAR MARKS THEIR FIFTH BIRTHDAY.
CONGRATULATIONS!
o
WE ALL KNOW WHAT FUN A DAY OF GOLF CAN BE -- THEY
SAY THAT A BAD DAY GOLFING IS BETTER THAN A GOOD
DAY AT THE OFFICE. //

BUT LET'S NOT FORGET THE SERIOUS WORK DONE AT THE
HOSPITAL. THEY ARE RESTORING THE QUALITY OF LIFE
TO VICTIMS OF SPINAL CORD AND BRAIN INJURIES, AS
WELL TO THOSE SUFFERING FROM STROKES AND ARTHRITIS.
0
THEY'VE GOT A TOP-NOTCH TEAM OVER THERE -- IN FACT,
THE HOSPITAL RECENTLY RANKED AS ONE OF THE TOP TEN
REHAB CENTERS IN THE NATION. EVERYONE HERE KNOWS
HOW CRUCIAL THEIR WORK IS -- AND EACH OF US WANTS
TO HELP -- so THE HOSPITAL CAN CONTINUE TO MAKE A
DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF so MANY PATIENTS.

THANKS TO THE VISION OF THE HOSPITAL'S FOUNDER, ED
ECKENHOFF, AND THE CONCERN OF TOURNAMENT CHAIRMEN
SAM SKINNER AND DAN ROSTENKOWSKI -- THIS GREAT
EVENING WAS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WONDERFUL
SUPPORT.

PRESIDENTIAL REMARKS: NAT'L REHABILITATION HOSPITAL FUNDRAISER
AVENEL GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB, POTOMAC, MD
MONDAY, MAY 6, 1991
6:15 P.M.
-- It's probably a good thing that I couldn't join you on the
links today -- it seems I spend more time in the sand than
Lawrence of Arabia. //
After I tee off, they don't have to replace the turf -- they
have to re-turf the place.
Actually, I won't tell you how deep my divots are -- but
you're wrong if you think Richard Nixon had the first opening
to China. //
-- It's great to see so many of you supporting the National
Rehabilitation Hospital. You know, they've been treating
patients from across America and around the world for
several years now - in fact, this year marks their fifth
birthday. Congratulations!
-- We all know what fun a day of golf can be -- they say that a
bad day golfing is better than a good day at the office. //
But let's not forget the serious work done at the hospital.
They are restoring the quality of life to victims of spinal
cord and brain injuries, as well as those suffering from
strokes and arthritis.
--
They've got a top-notch team over there -- in fact, the
Hospital recently ranked as one of Top-10 rehab centers in
the nation. Everyone here knows how crucial their work is
-- and each of us wants to help -- so the Hospital can
continue to make a difference in the lives of so many
patients.
--
Thanks to the vision of the Hospital's founder, Ed
Eckenhoff, and the concern of Tournament Chairmen Sam
Skinner and Dan Rostenkowski -- this great evening was
possible. Thank you for your wonderful support.
