The drop in unemployment is one more sign that our economy is strengthening. Data released just this week showed new car sales were up, housing sales were up, and the purchasing managers' index was bullish on the manufacturing sector. And people should take note of the fact that interest rates are dropping to levels we haven't seen since 1977. Not only Are parts of the country still having it tough? Sure. Are there still people out there hurting?. Yes. Are we prepared to help? Absolutely But we're trying to do it the right way; the compassionate way for the guy out of work the guy footing the bill -- the taxpayer. but also I'll sign a responsible bill in a heartbeat if the Congress would just send me one. I'm just a little bit tired of some in the Congress using one issue after another to back out of the budget agreement. I'm determined to keep the lid on spending, and I'm going to hold Congress to honoring its commitments. Maybe they think they can spend money we don't have -- but I don't. Look, let's be straight with the American people -- we can assist people whose benefits have run out, and we can do it immediately. This isn't about making partisan points.
