PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO: THANKSGIVING DAY MESSAGE FOR THE TROOPS
When the early settlers came to America more than three
centuries ago, they experienced many years of hardship, peril, and
fear. Even in the face of adversity, they offered praises of
thanksgiving to God for His bountiful blessings. In time,
Americans developed a special custom. They set aside one day each
year to worship with family and friends -- giving special thanks
for the blessings bestowed upon us. It is fitting, then, that we
celebrate and this holiday of Thanksgiving: thanking God for all He has
done while also asking for forgiveness -- praying not for an
easier life, but] praying that our misfortunes ? help us become
stronger. III
A year ago, I stood in the sand and shared Thanksgiving dinner
with some of our troops stationed in Saudi Arabia -- troops who
later went on to defend freedom and] battle, hagi tyranny in the Persian Russin
and to reverse Saddam
Gulf
I' will never forget that Thanksgiving dinner. Although we
brutal
act
stood beside a jeep far from home, the dinner captured the spirit
aggression
of Thanksgiving. III This year, Americans all across the country
will say a prayer for our servicemen and women, and for the
families whose soldiers were lost in Operation Desert Storm.
For over two hundred years, our nation has faced many difficult
challenges. America's men and women in uniform have been on the
front line in defense of our way of life, our beliefs, and our
values. Your devotion to liberty has enabled freedom's light to
shine more brightly across the world. III
So, take a moment today to say a special prayer of
Thanksgiving. Give thanks for our family and friends
Give
thanks for the countless blessings we receive each and every day
Give thanks that our work is helping the United States of America
show other countries the way to peace and democracy
Remember
those who are less fortunate in this world, and VOW to make each
person's life we touch a little brighter. III
Some of you may spending this holiday away from loved ones.
For your exceptional service and sacrifice, we all are grateful;
you are in our thoughts and our prayers. To all our servicemen and
women, wherever you may be stationed, Barbara and I, and the rest
of the Bush family, wish you a happy Thanksgiving. May God bless
you all.

REALTORS
PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO: NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS
MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1991
Greetings. I could talk volumes about the collective
contributions of the National Association of Realtors. But much
more to your tribute -- you continue to offer yourselves and your
efforts to some of this country's most pressing concerns,
including housing our homeless, preserving our fragile
environment, bolstering our commercial industry, and creating
affordable housing for all our citizens.
Some of you may remember that the last time I spoke with
you, I also addressed the issue of affordable housing when I
announced this administration's strategy to bring basic shelter
and affordable housing within reach of millions of Americans --
we've called it the HOPE initiative: Homeownership and
Opportunity for People Everywhere. HOPE will address a full
range of housing concerns, from shelter for the homeless to
affordable housing for low-income families to initiatives that
open access to expanded job opportunities and help millions more
Americans own their own homes.
You and I both know there are no quick-fix solutions to
these problems, but we also know that the true measure of success
isn't how many families we add to housing assistance rosters;
it's how many families we move up and out into the ranks of
homeowners.
Yours is an organization that has traditionally faced major
issues such as this head on and worked cooperatively to seek
solutions for the benefit of all our citizens.
In so doing, you have been blessed with leaders who have
anticipated challenges and have had the wisdom to respond
effectively. Your 1992 President, Dorcas Helfant, is
representative of this kind of leadership just as she is
representative of you, the product of steadfast American values -
- hard work and perseverance -- with an abundance of each that
has allowed her to emerge as the first female president of the
nation's largest professional trade association.
I mentioned before that we control our own destiny, but only
if we recognize and understand the challenges that lie before us
and work with leaders like Dorcas to establish real and workable
solutions.
Barbara and I wish you well as you continue in your efforts
to lead this country forward. Thank you and God bless each and
every one of you.

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE: NATIONAL FARM CITY WEEK
MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1991
At this time every year, families and friends gather together
to count their many blessings. Americans have much to be thankful
for. As we settle down to Thanksgiving dinner, we remember that
our Nation's two million farmers and ranchers supply a safe,
abundant food and fiber supply -- the envy of the world. We
remember their careful stewardship of the land benefits the
consumer and the environment.
It is in everyone's best interest to understand the
similarities -- and the differences -- of those who live in the
city, and those on the farm. Neither can exist in isolation.
I encourage all Americans to celebrate our interdependence
during this National Farm-City Week. We are all "partners in
progress."

PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO: PSA FOR THE 1991 PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
Monday, October 21, 1991
Your're watching the best in golf -- and you know there are
many champions off the course. When people volunteer, they can
do anything. The PGA Tour has been proving that for over 50
years. The Tour, its tournament and players, together with its
network of 55,000 volunteers, have raised almost 200 million
dollars for charity -- from the first 10,000 dollars in 1938 to
the 24 million dollars that will be raised this year.
In just 85 minutes -- the time it takes me to play 18 holes
-- the PGA Tour and its volunteers raise more than $282,000
dollars. Their work produces results long after the season ends
--They help the disabled walk, comfort the needy, teach people to
read. Fifty-five thousand people give us millions of reasons to
say thank you -- They prove that when you volunteer, you make a
difference.

It is fitting, then, that we
celebrate this holiday of Thanksgiving: thanking God for all He has
done, while also asking for forgiveness -- praying not for an
easier life, but praying that our misfortunes help us become
stronger. III
A year ago, I stood in the sand and shared Thanksgiving dinner
with some of our troops stationed in Saudi Arabia -- troops who
later went on to defend freedom and battle tyranny in the Persian
Gulf. I' will never forget that Thanksgiving dinner. Although we
stood beside a jeep far from home, the dinner captured the spirit
of Thanksgiving. 111 This year, Americans all across the country
will say a prayer for our servicemen and women, and for the
families whose soldiers were lost in Operation Desert Storm.
For your exceptional service and sacrifice, we all are grateful;
you are in our thoughts and our prayers. To all our servicemen and
women, wherever you may be stationed, Barbara and I, and the rest
of the Bush family, wish you a happy Thanksgiving. May God bless
you all.

PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO: HOLIDAY MESSAGE TO THE ARMED FORCES
For all Americans, the holidays celebrate the miracles that
give us faith and inspiration a son of God born to man
a
temple rebuilt
a
flame preserved
a world redeemed. It is a
time of gifts and gratitude, of hope and remembrance, of prayers
offered and blessings counted.
It has been said that, "Those who expect to reap the
blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigues of
supporting it." \ A year ago, when American families gathered
to sing of peace on earth and good will toward men, many of you
were far from home. The demands of duty meant that
camouflage replaced Christmas colors, revele replaced revelry,
and holiday meals came as MREs.
reveille
While some of you were far from loved ones, you were never
closer to our hearts nor more central in our prayers. In the
season of peace, your courage and commitment helped make peace
possible. Your made us proud to be Americans, and me proud to
serve as your Commander in Chief.
No nation could have a finer fighting force, no country
could have finer sons and daughters. Man's love of freedom
helped answer prayers in the Persian Gulf \ in Europe \ and in
the Soviet Union. The Cold War has melted, communism has
dissolved, and we face a new age of peace. For that, we thank
the One though whom all things are possible. Barbara joins me in
wishing all of you a merry holiday season and a happy New Year.
God bless you and our great country.

You and I both know there are no quick-fix solutions to
these problems, but we also know that the true measure of success
isn't how many families we add to housing assistance rosters;
it's how many families we move up and out into the ranks of

We are all "partners in
progress."

THE FARM-CITY CONCEPT
Most Americans, both farm and city, are
blessed with an abundance of wholesome
food and healthy living spaces. But not
everyone. We can do better. We should.
It's in everyone's best interest for our farms
and cities to remain strong and healthy.
Neither farm nor city can exist in isolation.
We need each other.
Since 1955, the National Farm-City Council,
together with state and local councils and
committees, has encouraged an enlightened
understanding between rural and urban
residents. We are "Partners in Progress."
NATIONAL FARM-CITY WEEK, always the
week ending on Thanksgiving Day, is a time
to reflect on our blessings, pledge ourselves
to helping those in need, and correct wrongs
wherever they exist in our rural, suburban
and urban communities.

A:THANKS
Draft One
PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO: THANKSGIVING DAY MESSAGE FOR THE TROOPS
When the early settlers came to America more than three
centuries ago, they experienced many years of hardship, peril, and
fear. Even in the face of adversity, they offered praises of
thanksgiving to God for His bountiful blessings. In time,
Americans developed a special custom. They set aside one day each
year to worship with family and friends -- giving special thanks
for the blessings bestowed upon us. It is fitting, then, that we
celebrate this holiday of Thanksgiving: thanking God for all He has
done, while also asking for forgiveness -- praying not for an
easier life, but praying that our misfortunes help us become
stronger. III
A year ago, I stood in the sand and shared Thanksgiving dinner
with some of our troops stationed in Saudi Arabia -- troops who
later went on to defend freedom and battle tyranny in the Persian
Gulf. I will never forget that Thanksgiving dinner. Although we
stood beside a jeep far from home, the dinner captured the spirit
of Thanksgiving.
For your exceptional service and sacrifice, we all are grateful;
you are in our thoughts and our prayers.

For all Americans, the holidays celebrate the miracles that
give us faith and inspiration
a son of God born to man
a

a world redeemed. It is a
time of gifts and gratitude, of hope and remembrance, of prayers
offered and blessings counted.
Man's love of freedom
helped answer prayers in the Persian Gulf \ in Europe and in
the Soviet Union. The Cold War has melted, communism has
dissolved, and we face a new age of peace. For that, we thank
the One though whom all things are possible. Barbara joins me in
wishing all of you a merry holiday season and a happy New Year.
God bless you and our great country.

You and I both know there are no quick-fix solutions to
these problems, but we also know that the true measure of success
isn't how many families we add to housing assistance rosters;
it's how many families we move up and out into the ranks of

FARMCITY
We are all "partners in
progress."
