PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO MESSAGE: 50th ANNIVERSARY AFRTS
-
On this fiftieth anniversary of the Armed Forces Radio and
Television Service, I congratulate all 1,700 men and women
serving with A-F-R-T-S in distant corners of the world.
What began with a phonograph sending signals no farther than
the mess hall speakers, today reaches more than one million
dedicated fans from Diego Garcia to Denmark.
For five decades, Armed Forces Radio and Television has
brought word from home to generations of American military
personnel and their families serving our country overseas. As
these men and women help keep the peace and freedom in far away
places, Armed Forces Radio and TV helps bring "home" a little
closer.
Your round-the-clock news and quality entertainment is
appreciated by American military forces around the globe. From
the Pacific region during World War Two -- [ I remember how we
all looked forward to hearing those broadcasts over the ship's
shortwave radio ] -- over the hills of Korea, through the
jungles of Vietnam / and across the sands of the Middle East
-
- you were there. Yours is a rich heritage of service to those
who wear the uniform. That's a history to be proud of.
I salute all of you for the outstanding job you have done
for our country in keeping our service men and women the best
informed military in the world.

PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO:
BISHOP ALLIN ROAST
-
Good evening everyone. I wish I could be there with you
tonight -- as long as we're roasting the bishop, we might as well
serve him up "well done." I hear Sonny Montgomery's going to be
there. He knows how to turn up the heat.
You know, Reverend, after all the years I've known you, I
still don't know whether you're a Republican or Democrat. I know
you like to keep above politics -- but let me tell you just one
little story. There was a bishop and a politician who showed up
at the pearly gates at the same time. St. Peter met them, and
took them to their new homes. He dropped the politician off at a
beautiful mansion, and said: "This is your new home." Then St.
Peter and the bishop drove on. And on. And finally stopped at a
little broken down shack. "Well," said St. Peter, "this is your
new home." The bishop said: "Now hold on -- I'm a pious man,
I've lived a decent life -- why do I get a dump like this while
the politician gets the spread?" St. Peter replied: "We get a
lot of bishops up here -- but we hardly ever get a politician."
Now I don't know whether God's a Democrat or Republican, but
I have just one request -- whatever I say about Jack: don't hold
it against the GOP. But I think the bishop can take it. To
quote his wife -- Lady Ann: "You can stand anything for a while -
- even hanging."
So let me get this off my chest: Jack, all those times we
played horseshoes together -- I didn't really lose -- I just let
you win. 11 And I remember all those sermons -- there I sat in
my pew, head bowed, hands clasped, eyes closed. \ I always loved
my afternoon naps. 11 Barbara loves your sermons so much -- she
said you could market them for sale. \ I think that's a great
idea. \ You could label them: "Dry Goods and Notions. " 11
As most of you know, Bishop Allin served twelve years as the
Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. When I asked him what
he was most proud of he said: "I survived." 11 Funny -- that's
what everyone else says too.
But really, Jack, I salute you for everything you're doing
for this great cause -- for everything you've done for me and my
family, and for everything you have done for the Church. And as
President, I want to thank you for participating in this roast -
- it's always nice to have a little company in the frying pan.
God bless you and this great country.

ROAST
PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO:
BISHOP ALLIN ROAST
Good evening everyone. I wish I could be there with you
tonight -- as long as we're roasting the bishop, we might as well
serve him up "well done." H hear Sonny Montgomery's going to be
Pater and the bishop drove on. And on. And finally stopped at'a
little broken down shack. "Well," said St. Peter, "this is your
new home. The bishop said: "Now hold on - I'm a pious man,
I've lived & decent life -- why do I get & dump like this while
the politician gets the spread?" St. Peter replied: "We get a
lot of bishops up here -- but we hardly ever get a politician."
Now I don't know whether God's a Democrat or Republican, but
I have just one request -- whatever I say about Jack: don't hold
it against the GOP. But I think the bishop can take it. To
quote his wife - Lady Ann: "You can stand anything for a while -
- even hanging."

So let me get this off my chest: Jack, all those times we
played horseshoes together or I didn't really lose - 1 just let
you win. 11 And I remember all those sermons -- there I sat in
my pew, head bowed, hands clasped, eyes closed. \ I always loved
my afternoon naps. 11 Barbara loves your sermons so much -- she
said you could market them for sale. \ -I think that's a great
idea. \ You could label them: "Dry Goods and Notions.' II 11
As most of you know, Bishop Allin served twelve years as the
Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. when I asked him what
he was most proud of he said: "I survived." 11 Funny - that's
what everyone else says too.
But really, Jack; I salute you for everything you're doing
for this great-cause - for everything you've done for me and my
family. And as President, I want to thank you for participating
in this roast - it's always nice to have a little company in the
frying pan. God-bless you and this great country.

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE:
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF
FIREFIGHTERS
Good morning. I wish I could be with you today in
Vancouver. Instead I send my best wishes from the District of
Columbia to all of you in British Columbia at the 41st Biennial
Convention of the International Association of Fire Fighters.
I speak for our entire Nation when I thank you for your hard
work, determination, and courage. Whether it's saving a child
from a burning building, responding to an emergency, or fighting
fires in a crowded city, you are the first line of defense in so
many life-threatening situations.
Few people have a tougher commute to the job or a harder day
in the office than firefighters. Your valor in the line of duty
means saved lives and second chances. Some of us owe you our
survival, and the rest of us owe you our gratitude.
The IAFF and your president, Al Whitehead, also deserve
special thanks for work in fire and safety programs, hazardous
materials training programs, and for generous support of the Burn
Foundation and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. You are our
nation's -- and Canada's -- finest. Keep up the good work, and

PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO: JEWISH WAR VETERANS OF THE U.S.A.
To my fellow veterans -- The Jewish War Veterans of the
United States of America -- it's an honor to join this
convention. I hear National Commander Al Cohen is there -- a
fellow World War II vet. We old timers can tell the country a
little about life in the military: when you're in the trenches -
- you don't care what color your cover is. When you're on a
mission -- you don't ask your wingman how he prays.
I served with many Jewish soldiers in my day -- proud
Americans, each and every one of them. American Jews have
defended their country in every war. From Meuse-Argonne to
Midway. From Iwo Jima to Inchon. From Saipan to Saudi Arabia -
- American Jews have done the hard work of freedom. The Midrash
says: "If you can't stand the smell of gunpowder, don't go to
war." The men I've known have stood the gunpowder, stood their
ground -- and stood tall for America.
But JWV does more than honor those who defended America
during war -- though even there, one might say, "Daiyanu." [die
YAY noo (that would be enough) ]. The JWV also encourages those
who would care for America during peace. Whether it's
volunteering at our VA hospitals, helping our homeless, or
keeping our kids on the right track -- your veterans are on the
frontlines of a battle for a better America.
Thank you for all you've done for your country -- for all
you're doing. God bless you and God bless the United States of
America.

Keep up the good work, and
may God bless you all.

The Midrash
says: "If you can't stand the smell of gunpowder, don't go to
war. " The men I've known have stood the gunpowder, stood their
ground -- and stood tall for America.
But JWV does more than honor those who defended America
during war -- though even there, one might say, "Daiyanu." [die
YAY noo (that would be enough) The JWV also encourages those
who would care for America during peace. Whether it's
volunteering at our VA hospitals, helping our homeless, or
keeping our kids on the right track -- your veterans are on the
frontlines of a battle for a better America.
Thank you for all you've done for your country -- for all
you're doing. God bless you and God bless the United States of
America.

ROAST
PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO:
BISHOP ALLIN ROAST
Good evening everyone. I wish I could be there with you
tonight -- as long as we're roasting the bishop, we might as well
serve him up "well done." I hear Sonny Montgomery's going to be
To
quote his wife -- Lady Ann: "You can stand anything for a while -
- even hanging. 11
When I asked him what
he was most proud of he said: "I survived. If 11 Funny -- that's
what everyone else says too.
But really, Jack, I salute you for everything you're doing
for this great cause -- for everything you've done for me and my
family. And as President, I want to thank you for participating
in this roast -- it's always nice to have a little company in the
frying pan. God bless you and this great country.

YAY noo (that would be enough)] The JWV also encourages those
who would care for America during peace.

I wish I could be there with you
tonight -- as long as we're roasting the bishop, we might as well
serve him up "well done." I hear Sonny Montgomery's going to be
Peter, "this is your
new home.' " The bishop said: "Now hold on -- I'm a pious man,
I've lived a decent life -- why do I get a dump like this while
the politician gets the spread?" St.
\ - I think that's a great
idea. \ You could label them: "Dry Goods and Notions. "
As most of you know, Bishop Allin served twelve years as the
Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. When I asked him what
he was most proud of he said: "I survived. " 11 Funny -- that's
what everyone else says too.
But really, Jack; I salute you for everything you're doing
for this great-cause -- for everything you've done for me and my
family. And as President, I want to thank you for participating
in this roast -- it's always nice to have a little company in the
frying pan. God bless you and this great country.

PRESIDENTIAL VIDEO MESSAGE: 50th ANNIVERSARY AFRTS
On this fiftieth anniversary of the Armed Forces Radio and
Television Service, I congratulate all 1,700 men and women
serving with A-F-R-T-S in distant corners of the world.
What began with a phonograph sending signals no farther than
the mess hall speakers, today reaches more than one million
dedicated fans from Diego Garcia to Denmark.
For five decades, Armed Forces Radio and Television has
brought word from home to generations of American military
personnel and their families serving our country overseas. As
these men and women help keep the peace and freedom in far away
places, Armed Forces Radio and TV helps bring "home" a little
closer.
Your round-the-clock news and quality entertainment is
recognized throughout American military forces around the globe.
From the Pacific region during World War Two -- [ I remember how
we all looked forward to hearing those broadcasts over the ship's
shortwave radio ] -- over the hills of Korea, through the
jungles of Vietnam / and across the sands of the Middle East -
- you were there. Yours is a rich heritage of service to those
who wear the uniform. That's a history to be proud of.
I salute all of you for the outstanding job you have done
for our country in keeping our service men and women the best
informed military in the world.

FIRE
Your valor in the line of duty
means-saved lives-and-second-chances.
Keep up the good work, and
may God bless you all.
