YOUR BMW PLANT FOR 1996 IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THE
REALITIES OF GLOBAL BUSINESS TODAY. THE GERMANS HAVE

THE NEXT TWENTY YEARS.

EXPRESSED THROUGH FOOD AND SUPPLIES, HAS REALLY MADE
THE DIFFERENCE FOR MEMBERS OF THE AMERICAN FAMILY WHO
ARE SUFFERING TERRIBLY RIGHT NOW. AND ON BEHALF OF
THOSE PEOPLE, I WANT TO PERSONALLY THANK YOU FOR THAT.

YOU'RE GOOD PEOPLE, WITH BIG HEARTS. AND I DEEPLY

in South Carolina.
I'm particularly delighted to be here at the Greenville-

in this great State.
The very fact that you need to expand these facilities means
you're doing something right. You've been aggressive. seeking

pleased to see Federal dollars going toward a world-class airport
here, because it's a sure sign that South Carolina is being
recognized as a world-class place to do business.
When you get the runway extended, I'm going to trade in this
747 and get a big old Lockheed C-5A Transport plane, name it Air

barbecue to take back home to Texas.
I've got to say that South Carolina's standing tall as a

Thank you, Governor, and hello, everyone. It's great to be
in South Carolina.
I'm particularly delighted to be here at the Greenville-
Spartanburg Airport, because it's a bellwether of things to come
in this great State.
The very fact that you need to expand these facilities means
you're doing something right. You've been aggressive seeking
foreign investment broadening your industrial base and I'm
pleased to see Federal dollars going toward a world-class airport
here, because it's a sure sign that South Carolina is being
recognized as a world-class place to do business.
When you get the runway extended, I'm going to trade in this
747 and get a big old Lockheed C-5A Transport plane, name it Air
Force One, and come down here and load it up with some real
barbecue to take back home to Texas.
I've got to say that South Carolina's standing tall as a
fine example to the rest of the country these days. You're doing
just what we all need to be doing across America in the next four
years -- and that is, building enterprises that produce high-
1
when they grow up, they'll be the best workers in the world.
Right here, in South Carolina, and across this great land.
Thanks for coming out. God bless you, God bless South
Carolina, and God bless the United States of America.

jobs.
That's what's going to turn this economy around.
Your new BMW plant is a perfect example. Germans and
Japanese have finally figured out that American workers are
second to none
and they're betting money you'll come through.
And you will come through, for BMW and for this whole region
-- with 8,000 jobs pumping more than $7 billion into the economy
over the next twenty years.
I tell you, standing next to Governor Campbell there in
Germany when the plant was announced
part of the effort
I was proud and happy to
be an and I was proud of South Carolina.
I was proud of South Carolina last week, too, when I
returned to the Florida and Louisiana communities devastated by
Hurricane Andrew.
It's a heartwrenching scene in Florida, but America is
pouring out her heart for our brothers and sisters down there.
And South Carolina's a big part of the effort. Your compassion,
food and supplies have filled some hungry stomachs. You've
really made a difference to those members of the American family
who are suffering so terribly right now. And on behalf of those
people, I want to personally thank you for that.
You're good people, with big hearts. And I deeply believe
that Americans are good people, all across the land.
That's why we're going to lead this brave new world we've
helped build, and we're going to do it through our children.
They're going to be the best-educated in the world

when they grow up, they'll be the best workers in the world.
Right here, in South Carolina, and across this great land.
