I.
PURPOSE:
To participate in a ceremony honoring the Pittsburgh
Penguins, National Hockey League Champions.
II.
BACKGROUND:
This event honors the Pittsburgh Penguins for winning the
National Hockey League Stanley Cup Championship. The
Penguins are the first United States team to win the
Stanley Cup since 1983. The Penguins join the Steelers of
the National Football League and the Pirates of the
National League, Major League Baseball, as champions in
"Pittsburgh, The City of Champions".
Edward J. DeBartolo, owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins and
the four-time world champion San Francisco 49ers of the
National Football League, is attending this event.
Also in attendance is Ashley Barrasso, daughter of
Penguins goalie Tom Barrasso. Ashley has been diagnosed
as having neuroblastoma, a very serious childhood cancer.
Tom Barrasso, and his wife Megan, have organized the
Ashley Barrasso Cancer Research Fund to raise money for
childhood cancer research. In less than one year they
have raised over $100,000. The entire Pittsburgh Penguins
team is active in this organization.
Mr. DeBartolo will present you with a miniature version of
the Stanley Cup and Mario Lemieux, captain of the
Pittsburgh Penguins, will present you with a Penguins and
a National Hockey League jersey.
