Dear Mr. President,
The United States now has a truly historic opportunity to encourage
peace treaties among all the states in the Middle East. Israel is
a tiny country in 17 1/2 percent of Palestine. There can be no
stability in the Middle East if Israel is weakened territorial-
wise. Many American Jews have settled in the West Bank. They form
a stable buffer for the security of Israel. They are also an
assurance that any Arab autonomy in the West Bank will not be
abused toward aggression and war. We must put an end to the
persecution of the Jewish people. First with pogroms in Russia,
then the murder of more than one million Jewish children in the
Holocaust, and now the Anti-Zionism that aims at a weak and
defenseless Jewish people by denying Israel the land it controls
for its basic defense in the West Bank. The Arab Nations deserve
the twenty-one states that it has, and we have just finished a war
to defend one of them. The Jewish people also deserve to live in
their own tiny, ancient, homeland of Israel.
Maybe, now, when America and our allies will go to the peace table,
our President should defend the Israeli cause as he has defended a
just Arab cause.
Maybe it was by Divine Providence that Mr. Bush was elected to
assure the peace and stability of a defensible Israel, with the
West Bank, and that Israel will have peace with its neighbors and
contribute to the security of the United States and to the health
and progress of the world.
