Hussein from the Saudi Ambassador:
Your majesty, you claimed to defend the
Palestinian people's right to self-deter-
mination and a state of their own. And I
support you in that. But you were responsi-
ble for the Palestinian homeland on the
West Bank from 1948 to 1967. Why in all
that period did you not give them their
rights and statehood?
When you needed Saudi troops to help
you, they came and spent 10 years in your
country at your asking. And we did not
question why or why not, nor raise "ifs,"
"and," or "buts," as you do now.
You say the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border is dis-
puted and based on a historical record cre-
ated by the colonial British. Your Majesty,
you should be the last one to say that. Not
only all your borders, but your whole coun-
try was created by the same colonial Brit-
ish. And do you remember when the
British troops were invited by you into your
country in 1958? We did not object or ques-
tion your motives and judgement over that.

of Faisal Husseini
Faisal Husseini, the leader of the Palestinian Arab delegation
which met with Secretary of State James Baker this week, has been
widely portrayed as a "moderate." The truth, however, is consider-

year, Husseini explicitly endorsed the use of "armed struggle," the
traditional PLO euphemism for wanton terror against Israel. "When
there is an occupation, people have the right to fight it by any
means they can, including the armed struggle," Husseini asserted.
"I believe that at this stage, other means will work better. I am not
saying that we should should_renounce renounce the armed struggle. The armed
struggle is only part of the political struggle."
Husseini then revealed some disturbing details about his past. It
turns out, for example, that this "moderate" is actually a veteran
terrorist. "I joined the Palestine Liberation Army" - the Syrian
faction of the PLO - "in 1966, and went to officers' school in
Syria. (In 1967) I was sent to train Palestinian fighters in Leba-
non," (meaning he trained terrorists to launch cross-border murder
raids into northern Israel). After the-Six Day War, Husseini slipped
into Jerusalem and began organizing a local terror cell. He was
arrested after Israeli police "searched my house and found two dis-
assembled weapons," and he spent time in prison for the crime.
The other fascinating aspect of the interview was Husseini's
comment on the question of whether a small Palestinian state
would serve as a launching pad for future attempts to conquer the
rest of Israe!. Asked if he still adhered to the traditional PLO goal
of a "democratic secular state," Husseini described that goal as "a
beautiful dream," and concluded: "As to the future - who can
say? Who can guarantee that our children or grandchildren fifty
years from now will not ask why we haven't chosen the democra-
tic, secular state?" It was a coy way of saying, "Let's be patient,
take what we can right now, and eventually we'll conquer the rest
