I AM ESPECIALLY DELIGHTED THAT YOU ASKED ME TO SHARE THIS EVENING WITH YOU AND AM ESPECIALLY HAPPY KNOWING THAT WE ARE ONE STEP CLOSER TO PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST. NOTE: Mrs. Ford did not deliver these remarks. acc -2- AS YOU KNOW, THE PRESIDENT PERSONALLY CALLED PRIME MINISTER RABIN TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON THE SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION TO THE NEGOTIATIONS, AND TO ASSURE HIM THAT THE CLOSE RELATIONS THAT EXIST BETWEEN ISRAEL AND THE UNITED STATES WILL CONTINUE. -3- THE PRESIDENT IS DEEPLY GRATIFIED THAT THIS NEW GREATEST AGREEMENT HAS TAKEN PLACE. IT IS HIS DEEREST HOPE THAT IT WILL LEAD TO A FINAL, JUST, AND DURABLE SETTLEMENT IN THE MIDDLE EAST, AND BE OF LASTING BENEFIT TO THE WORLD AS A WHOLE. -4- BEFORE I SAY GOODNIGHT, I WANT TO EXTEND OUR FAMILY'S VERY BEST WISHES AS YOU APPROACH THE HIGH HOLY DAYS.
