Dear Susan:
It is a pleasure to congratulate you on your
4-H Club accomplishments -- the Mississippi
State 4-H Herse Show Champion in Saddle
Herse Pleasure, and in Barrel Racing in the
State 4-H Horse Show; High-Peint Junior Rider
in the same show where, I understand, you rode
in 3 events after your horse fell on your leg and
broke it); first place winner in Pole Bending in
the National Youth All-Breed Horse Show, plac-
ing in the top 10 in the Regional 4-H Horse Show
in Dallas in both Pole Bending and Barrel Racing
(with a cast on your leg).
Participation in sports activities not only pro-
motes physical fitness but also develops strong
qualities of character and good citizenship. I
am confident that you will always meet life's
challenges with courage and determination,
and I send my best wishes for your continued
success and happiness in the years ahead.
Sincerely,
W. Eugene Gene Ainsworth, Jr.

Dear Gene,
When the girls came in from school this
afternoon and I told them about Ann's letter to
come from you, with her usual directness and not
a little sibling rivalry Susan asked, "What
about a letter for me?" Really, she did just as
good a job as Ann, but since her record is
not eligible for competition this year, I just
didn't think to ask for a letter for her. It
would be very valuable to her in years to come.
Could you do it? I'd really appreciate it, if
you could.
Susan was Mississippi State 4-H Horse Show
Champion in Saddle Horse Pleasure and in Barrel
Racing in the State 4-H Horse Show held in
Jackson in August. In addition, she was the
High-Point Junior Rider for the show (a feat
she accomplished while riding with an uncasted
broken leg--her horse fell on her during the
show, but Susan rode her scheduled remaining 3
events, one of them Barrels). She was also
first place winner in Pole Bending in the
National Youth All-Breed Horse Show held in
Dallas in August, cast and all, placing in the
top 10 in the Regional 4-H Horse Show in Dallas
in both Pole Bending and Barrel Racing.
Any kind and gracious words from you will
really get Momma off the hook!
Thank you so much.

Dear Dan:
It was good to hear from you again and I do appreciate
your words of congratulations and condolence.
I hope you are enjoying your new position, although I
must add that you must be laboring in a more subdued
atmosphere than found at OEO and in the Congress.
I feel confident, however, that with you leading the
charge the AAPICU will be in the forefront of many
battles to come.
Dan, I realize the tremendous adverse impact which
new tax reform measures could have on college and
university gift programs and I will do what I can in
this regard. Please give me a call the next time
you are in Washington.
With warm personal regards, I am

Just a note to thank you for the handsome engraved plaque of
the June 9, 1973, Jackson Daily News editorial.
I am sure Joy will find the right spot in our home to display
it and I will always point with pride to it; not so much to the
editorial's content, which is much too geneyous, but to the
encouragement and assistance I have received from my friends
throughout my life.

We had attended several New Orleans Mardi Gras
parades when we lived in Mississippi but this was

large measure to your efforts and leadership as
Chairman and the tireless efforts of your staff.
I am deeply appreciative of your thoughtfulness

appreciated your efforts to make their participation

Dear Mr. Ainsworth:
International Paper Company is pleased to send you the enclosed
Tree Planting Kit.
The United States Forest Service has stated that without more
planting of trees and intensive forest management our nation will face
acute timber shortages in the years ahead. International Paper Company
is committed to these objectives -- our forest management program has
reforested more than one million acres of company lands and plants
more than 65 million trees a year.
The kit was produced by the American Forest Institute, an
association of our forest products industry, as part of our nation's
bicentennial program. We hope you and your family enjoy planting
these historic tree seeds, reading about America's forest heritage, and
personally participating in the bicentennial program of regenerating
our renewable silvan resource.
Sincerely,
