FORD MEDALLION PLAQUE AT THE GEORGE WASHINGTON MASONIC NATIONAL MEMORIAL Alexandria, Virginia Monday - - February 17, 1975 From: Terry O'Donnell FORD LIBRARY & 078839 BACKGROUND: The Association of Grand Lodges holds it annual meeting on George Wash- ington's Birthday at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. Attending will be the Grand Masters of the United States, the Deputy Grand Masters, Secretaries, the heads of the Concordant Bodies, past Grand Masters and Masonic leaders in jurisdictions abroad. The meeting begins at 10:00 a.m. and concludes with your arrival, the unveiling of the Gerald R. Ford medallion and your remarks. You are the fourteenth President of the United States to be a Mason. The others whose medallions also appear in the Memorial Auditorium are Presidents Washington, Monroe, Polk, Buchanan, Jackson, Andrew Johnson, Garfield, McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, Taft, Harding, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Truman. The Memorial has been operating at a deficit and a program has been initiated through all the Grand Lodges to make the Memorial self-sustaining by 1976. 2. SEQUENCE: 11:35 a. m. Board motorcade on South Grounds and depart en route Masonic National Memorial, Alexandria, Virginia. 11:50 a.m. Arrive Masonic National Memorial (side entrance) where you will be met by Mr. Raymond Ellis, President of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. PRESS POOL PHOTO COVERAGE Escorted by Mr. Ellis, proceed to the 1st floor entrance of the auditorium and pause for announcement. Announcement of you and Mr. Ellis. 11:53 a.m. Escorted by Mr. Ellis, proceed through the auditorium and take your seat between Mr. Ellis and Mr. Parish, Grand Master of Arizona. (Platform diagram at TAB A). OPEN PRESS COVERAGE ATTENDANCE: 250 11:55 a.m. After brief remarks by Mr. Ellis, he will ask you to accompany him to the medallion plaque at stage left. You stand to the side as Mr. Ellis and Mr. Marvin Fowler, Executive Secretary of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, unveil the medallion plaque. After the unveiling, Mr. Ellis will escort you to the podium. You will stand at his side as he intro- duces you. 12:00 Noon PRESIDENTIAL REMARKS.
