Digitized from Box D4 of The Ford Congressional Papers: Press Secretary and Speech File at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library STATEMENT OF OCTOBER 28, 1964 At a time when the Republican Party is fighting against overwhelming odds it is completely inappropriate to discuss a change in our House leader or to undercut our Congressional leadership. I actively supported Charlie Halleck as Republican leader in 1959 and again in 1961 and 1963. Against the power of the White House and the Democratic majority in the House the Republican leadership has been constructive and effective. I believe in loyalty to the party, its principles and its leaders particularly while engaged in a crucial campaign. No case, thus far, has been made for a change in either our principles or leadership. LIBRARY
