CONGRESSMAN
GERALD R. FORD
HOUSE REPUBLICAN LEADER
RELEASE
--FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-
May 15, 1969
Statement by Rep. Gerald R. Ford, R-Mich.
Mr. Fortas took exactly the right action in resigning. Impeachment
proceedings, had they been undertaken, would have shaken the confidence of the
American people in their highest court and would have diverted the attention of
the Congress and the entire Nation from other important business. The matter
is best resolved as Mr. Fortas has resolved it.
