FORD,JR.\nFor release:\nFriday, October 19\nRep. Gerald R. Ford, Jr. declared last night that to\nuse American tax money to ransom Cuban citizens from a Soviete\ncontrolled government would add another blunder to the sorry\nstory of Cuba. in an address to the Aquinas College Young\nRepublican Club Ford said that the \"crucial blunder was made\nin April of last year when at the last mânute the White House\ncancellednecessary U.S. air and sea support included in the\noriginal plan for the recapture of Cuba by Cuban patriots.\"\nWhile expressing sympathy and concern for the 1100 Cuban\npatriots involved Ford pointed out that the issue is whether\nthe U.S. is to assist in any way the atheistic Communist\nconspiracy especially in its takeover of an island nation less\nthan 100 miles from our own shores.\nFord insisted that to give American tax money to the\nSoviet-dominated Communists in Cuba would weaken our moral\nfibre at home and our prestige abroad. He called for strong\naction against the Castro government including an economic\nembargo and the immediate recognition of a Cuban government\nin exile.\nFord concluded by saying that \"To refuse to pursue a strong\nand vigorous policy in Cuba will give credence to Khrushchev's\nanalysis recently related by Robert Frost that the United States\nwill not take effective action because of the liberal philosophy\nof the present Administration.
