LINCOLN DAY INTRODUC Tions
AT MEMORIAL - FEB 6, 1967
Ladies and Gentlemen:
We meet here briefly today, in anticipation of the week ahead,
during which the nation will commemorate the birthday of the
Great Emancipator.
We are pleased indeed to have you with us and are honored that
you have come. We acknowledge with equal pleasure the participation
in these ceremonies of the Honor Guard of Howard University and of
the American University Singers, whose fine performances, as always,
deserve the highest praise. We know that memorial observances such
as this will take place in ever-increasing numbers across the land
in the days ahead and as the years go by. Abraham Lincoln, by
example and by precept, represented the very best of America to us
and to the world. We acknowledge with solemn gratitude the blessings
of liberty and freedom now ours to which he made so memorable and
enduring contribution.
