Some time ago when queries about this special edition came into us, we made a careful search of our files and could find no copies. We understand that 25 copies were printed not by the Office of Naval Research but by the Varo Manufacturing Company, Garland, Texas, for ONR. We do not know whether a copy might be available from them. I should point out, however, that the interest of the ONR individuals involved was unofficial since ONR has never had any official concern with UFO's. Examination of the manuscript was purely informal on the part of those who happened to receive it. PHOTOCOPY FROM GERALD FORD I BRARY I regret I cannot be more helpful to you in this matter. Dear Mr. Ford: Unidentified Flying Objects A one-day Symposium on Unidentified Flying Objects is to be held on Monday next, July 29 under the auspices of the House Committe on Science and Astronautics. Please be kind enough to pass on my request for a copy of the complete Proceedings of this Symposium, to be published as a House Document, to the office of that Committee (Honorable George P. Miller, Chairman). Thank you. In 1966, at the time of the much-publicized Michigan sightings, you felt that Congressional action would best serve the need for an impartial PHOTOCOPY FROM GERALD FORD I IBRARY investigation of the UFO phenomenon, with the facts made fully available to the public. That need remains unfulfilled, especially so in view of recent revelations about the Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects at the University of Colorado. The Michigan sightings contributed significantly to the decision by the House Committee on Armed Services to offer a contract for such a study. I thought then, and still think now, that it would have been very appropriate if the contract had been accepted instead by a prominent Michigan university. Sincerely yours, Gordon C. Sayel. Gordon C. As you may know, I have repeatedly recommended that thorough investiga- tive action be taken and the public be informed concerning this subject. As a result, the Air Force authorized the investigation presently being conducted at the University of Colorado under the chairmanship of Dr. Edward U. Condon. I sincerely hope that the investigation will prove to be worthwhile. Because of the report you are writing on this subject I thought you would like to see the enclosed publications which I was pleased to obtain for you: A copy of the hearings of the "Symposium on Unidentified Flying Objects" conducted by the Committee on Science and Astronautics in the House of Representatives. A copy of the Library of Congress Legislative Reference Service report entitled "Facts about Unidentified Flying Objects.
