A003 - POLiTICAL
Thank you for your recent communication endorsing my proposal that
Congress investigate the rash of reported sightings of unidentified
flying objects in southern Michigan and in other parts of the
country.
It is proper for the Federal government to look into a matter
which is causing alarm to the people of our nation as these
sightings have, and it is for this reason that I have called for
the investigation.
Such an inquiry is necessary and wholesome because of the incidents
that have occurred and I assure you that I will continue to press
for this investigation. I want you to know that your specific
comments were helpful to me in this respect, and that your remarks
do not go unheeded. I am aware of other reports such as the UFO
Evidence which pose questions that, like the most recent sightings,
cannot be answered by a few "pat" solutions.
Kindest personal regards.
Sincerely,
you'red R Ford

It has come to our attention that you are distributing and
encouraging the distribution of information on the so-called
"Flying Saucers" from your Michigan headquarters.
We would deeply appreciate receipt of certain information from
you as follows:
(1) How many members are enrolled in your group?
(2) How many of these are dues paying members?
(3) A sample copy of your tract or tracts.
(4) Do you consider your group's study of "Flying Saucers"
to have political implications?
(5) Have you received any previous official enquiries about
your work?
(6) What is your personal opinion, and, also, the opinion of
your group, on the so-called peace groups"?
I do hope that someone from this department, if not myself, will
soon have the pleasure of speaking with you personally, however
your written reply will greatly assist us in completing our
files on your group.
Any reply will be kept entirely confidential, as it is not our
policy to publicly discredit anyone.
Very truly yours,

TERRY MITCHELL
No doubt at one time or another most of us have imagined
what it would be like to experience the sensation of space flight.
It is Terry Mitchell's hope to design a craft which will render
space travel both feasible and practical for the average person.
His two-part presentation will deal with flying saucer design and
a discussion of his own UFO investigations. He will share his
findings with you and welcomes questions on the subject.
Mr. Mitchell has spent the past five years as an inde-
pendent investigator of Unidentified Flying Objects. His inves-
tigations have led him wherever UFO activity has been reported in
Canada and throughout the United States. He has been the subject
of interviews on over one hundred radio stations and has appeared
on all the major television networks in this country as well as
the CBS affiliate in Vancouver, British Columbia. His story has
appeared in a number of periodicals, including Harper's Weekly,
and in newspapers both here and in Canada. His presentation in-
trigues and stimulates audiences wherever he appears.
Terry Mitchell is presented under the auspices of the
University of Minnesota Program Service, a division of the De-
partment of Concerts and Lectures.
