We can\nnever repay our debt to these brave fellow citizens.\nBut we can each year acknowledge their contribution\nto our national strength and reinforce our resolve to\nstand by them as they have stood by us.\nOn this occasion I want to reaffirm the intention of\nmy Administration to make the lives of our nation's\nveterans more rewarding, to make their golden years\nmore satisfying and to offer those who are in our\nveterans hospitals the best possible health care. As\nour veterans protected our freedom and way of life,\nso too must we see to it that they participate fully in\nthe benefits of that freedom and way of life.\nAs we express our gratitude to our veterans, let us\nalso remember their colleagues who are still missing\nin action. I pledge that I will never abandon the task\nof resolving their status. We pray for them -- as we\nask God's blessings on all those whom this day honors.\nHerald R. Ford\nFORD & LIBRARY"
