THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
As a former Eagle Scout and now as Honorary
President of the Boy Scouts of America, I am
proud to congratulate Scouting's fifty-seven
million past and present members who are this
year observing the movement's sixty-five years
of distinguished service to our nation.
Your theme for 1975, "Be Prepared for Life:
Be Safe, Be Fit, " is particularly appropriate and
reflects the main thrust of all your programs to
build better citizens for the future. It is most
fitting that your Bicentennial program places
such a major emphasis on neighborhood and
community activity.
I warmly commend your plans to redouble your
efforts in the area of conservation through the
continuation of your successful Project SOAR,
and I salute your initiatives to conserve the
energy we need to become self-sufficient.
Your endeavors continue to reflect a sensitivity
and awareness of today's needs. They are well
tailored to the times in which we live. And it
can truly be said that, through them, you fulfill
Scouting's obligation of duty to country.
