THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
National Volunteer Week, 1976
During our Bicentennial year it is especially
appropriate that we honor the countless volun-
teers who have contributed to the development
and progress of our society. I hope that all
Americans will join me in this special National
Volunteer Week observance.
As we reflect on the achievements of two cen-
turies, we draw immeasurable inspiration from
the work of the millions of volunteers of all
social and economic backgrounds who have worked
together to improve the quality of life for all
of us.
The National Center for Voluntary Action has
significantly expanded the volunteer movement
by supporting and stimulating volunteer services
and voluntary organizations in their valuable
social work. In so doing, the National Center,
along with other groups, helps to ensure that a
great tradition from which we have derived much
of our vitality and strength in the past will
continue to be with us in our next century.
