(Casserly)PT July 19, 1975 THE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN TALKING POINTS AT PRESIDENTIAL ACCEPTANCE OF PRAYER PROCLAMATIONS OF AMERICA COLLECTION IN OVAL OFFICE MONDAY, JULY 21, 1975 1. I am very pleased that all of you are here today -- and I am pleased to accept this first known collection of American Prayer Proclamations -- dating back to 1775. From the beginning of this nation, prayer has been one of the greatest strengths of our country and our people. It has been a source of unity for all of us -- no matter what our individual beliefs may have been -- or are. 2. Today, we are doing our best to unify our people -- to create more unity in all aspects of our national life. The fact that you are here -- representing all faiths -- indicates that prayer has and will continue to be a great source of national unity. We are a blessed country. But we still have a long way to go to reach America's goals. We need to pray for the wisdom to attain them. (more) Digitized from Box 12 of President's Speeches and Statements: Reading Copies at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library - 2 - 3. As you know, I have proclaimed next Thursday, July 24, as a "National Day of Prayer. 11 I will -- and I know that many Americans will -- take some time to thank God for what He has given all of us. 4. This is an historic book and I hope we can do more things like it to show the traditional place of prayer in our history. I am very grateful to receive it and thank all of you. # # #
