I am very pleased that all of you are here today -- and I am\npleased to accept this first known collection of American Prayer\nProclamations -- dating back to 1775. From the beginning of this\nnation, prayer has been one of the greatest strengths of our country\nand our people. It has been a source of unity for all of us -- no matter\nwhat our individual beliefs may have been -- or are.\n2. Today, we are doing our best to unify our people -- to create\nmore unity in all aspects of our national life. The fact that you are here --\nrepresenting all faiths -- indicates that prayer has and will continue to\nbe a great source of national unity. We are a blessed country. But\nwe still have a long way to go to reach America's goals.
