In his Proclamation the President states, "In recent years ... we have come to appreciate more than ever the complex and expanding role which nurses play in our health care system. Increasingly, the high quality of our nursing profession is making it possible for more Americans to enjoy better health services. The excellent standards that characterize the practice of nursing in the United States were apparent in the care which you and your staff gave to the President's daughter, Julie, during her stay at the Indiana University Hospital. Because of your dedication to the ideals of your profession and, as a small token of his gratitude, the President thought you would like to have the enclosed duplicate of his Proclamation marking this occasion. It comes to you with his very best wishes. Sincerely, James H. Cavanaugh Associate Director Domestic Council Mrs. Mary Ellen Hardigg, R.N. In his Proclamation the President states, "Millions of Americans each year pledge themselves to assist the humanitarian causes of the American Red Cross. By so doing, they are being good neighbors -- assuring that help is available for themselves and their fellow Americans in time of need." In recognition of your dedicated service to the Red Cross, the President thought you would enjoy having the enclosed duplicate of his Proclamation marking this occasion. It comes to you with his very best wishes. Sincerely, William J. Baroody, Jr. Special Consultant to the President Mrs. Melvin R.
