On Wednesday, October 20, 1976, The Bronx Center For Economic
Development, Inc. will be sponsoring its "First Annual Achievement
Award" at The Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.
This award is one which is very special to our Board of Directors,
and it is therefore bestowed upon someone who has demonstrated un-
tiring dedication to and outstanding leadership in the overall cause
of economic development for the betterment of The Bronx County of
New York City.
This year's recipient, (our first) of the Annual Acheivement Award is
Mr. Newton S. Downing, Regional Director of the Office of Minority
Business Enterprise (O.M.B.E.), U.S. Department of Commerce.
This October, Mr. Downing will celebrate his third year as O.M.B.E.'s
Director of Region I, which comprises New York, New Jersey, Puerto
Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and all
other New England states.
We know that both Mr. Downing and our Board of Directors would be
delighted in seeing you and others you may wish to invite to this
