Ford Presidential Library AUGUST 11, 1974 Office of the White House Press Secretary NOTICE TO THE PRESS David Hume Kennerly, 27, has been named personal photographer to the President. Mr. Kennerly was born on March 9, 1947, in Roseburg, Oregon, and attended West Linn, Oregon, High School and Portland State College. He began his professional career as a staff photographer for the Oregon Journal and the Oregonian in Portland and was then a staff photographer for United Press International in Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D. C. He was Bureau Chief of UPI Newspictures in Vietnam during 1971-72. Mr. Kennerly won a Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography for coverage of the Vietnam war. He then worked as a contract photographer for Life, then Time magazine in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Paris and Washington, D.C. He covered three wars: Vietnam, India-Pakistan (1971) and Mozambique (1973). and was with the group of newsmen who went to Hanoi to witness the last POW release in 1973. He also traveled with Prime Minister Tanaka of Japan to the People's Republic of China in 1972. Mr. Kennerly is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O.A. Kennerly of Chicago. He resides in Washington, D.C. # # #
