NOTICE TO THE PRESS
The President today has signed S.J. Res. 222 providing for the appointment
of Dr. Murray Gell-Mann and S.J. Res. 220 and S.J. Res. 221 providing
for the reappointment of Dr. William A. M. Burden and Dr. Caryl P. Haskins
to the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution.
Existing law (20 U.S. C. 42) provides that the Board of Regents of the
Smithsonian Institution be composed of the Vice President, the
Chief of Justice of the United States, three Members of the Senate, three
Members of the House of Representatives, and nine other persons,
other than Members of Congress. The nine citizen regents are to be
appointed by joint resolution of Congress for six-year terms.
