Digitized from Box 2 of the White House Press Releases at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library
September 18, 1974
The President decided that the Administration will not support the
request of Pan American World Airways for direct federal subsidy. At
yesterday's meeting with the President and his top advisors, Secretary
Brinegar described the Administration's program of specific steps which
are underway and which will improve the financial health of U.S. Flag
carriers and may enable Pan Am to overcome its problems.
Secretary Brinegar will be holding a press conference today
(11:00 a. m., Wednesday, September 18) at the Department of
Transportation to discuss the specifics of this Presidential decision.
