Digitized from Box 7 of the White House Press Releases at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FEBRUARY 13, 1975 Office of the Vice President Washington, D. C. The Vice President today announced completion of professional staff appointments for the Commission on CIA Activities Within the United States. They are: David W. Belin, 46, Executive Director. He is a senior partner of the Des Moines, Iowa, law firm of Herrick, Langdon, Belin, Harris, Langdon & Helmick. He has practiced law in Des Moines since graduating in 1954 from the University of Michigan where in six years he earned undergraduate, Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctor degrees - all with high distinction. From the University of Michigan Law School, he received the Henry M. Bates Memorial Award made to each of the two most outstanding seniors in the Law School. He is a member of Ph1 Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif. He was Associate Editor of the Michigan Law Review in 1953-54. In 1964 Belin served as Assistant Counsel with the President's Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy (Warren Commission). Belin is the author of November 22, 1963: You Are The Jury. He lives with his wife and their five children in Des Moines. Mr. Belin's appoint- ment as Executive Director of the Commission was announced by the White House January 16. Harold Baker, 45, Senior Counsel. Mr. Baker is a partner in the Champaign, Illinois, law firm of Hatch, Corazza, Baker & Jensen. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois, 1951, and the University of Illinois Law School, 1956. At the present time in addition to his law practice, he is a lecturer in Advocacy at the University of Illinois Law School. Mr. Baker is a member of the Order of the Coif and he is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He and his wife live with their three children in Champaign, Illinois. Ernest Gellhorn, 39, Senior Counsel. He has been Professor of Law at the University of Virginia Law School since 1970. He graduated in 1956 from the University of Minnesota where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School (1962) where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. He was Note Editor of the Minnesota Law Review in 1961-62. He is the author of Administrative Law and Process and the co-author of the Administrative Process. Mr. Gellhorn lives with his wife and their two children in Charlottesville, Virginia. (MORE) - 2 - Robert B. 01sen, 48, Senior Counsel. He is the senior partner of the Kansas City, Missouri, law firm of Olsen, Talpers and Welte and has been practicing law in Kansas City since 1955. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1952 and from the University of Michigan Law School in 1955, where he served as Editor in Chief of the Michigan Law Review. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif. He has served on Boards of Directors of the Legal Aid and Defender Society of Greater Kansas City, the American Civil Liberties Union (Western Missouri Division), and the Family and children Services of Kansas City. Mr. 01sen, his wife and their four children live in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, Kansas. William W. Schwarzer, 49, Senior Counsel. He is a member of the San Francisco law firm of McCutchen, Doyle, Brown and Enersen. He has been engaged primarily in trial practice and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Schwarzer graduated cum laude from the University of Southern California in 1948 and cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1951. He was a teaching fellow at the Harvard Law School prior to entering private practice. He is a trustee of the World Affairs Council of Northern California and the former Chairman of the Marin County Aviation Com- mission. During World War II he served in military intelligence. He lives with his wife and two children in Mill Valley, California. Marvin L. Gray, Jr., 29, Counsel. Mr. Gray has been Assistant United States Attorney, Seattle, Washington, since 1973. He is a 1966 graduate of Princeton University and a 1969 magna cum laude graduate of the Harvard Law School, where he was the Articles Editor of the Harvard Law Review. From 1969-70 he served as Law Clerk to Judge Henry J. Friendly and from 1970-71 he served as Law Clerk to Justice John M. Harlan of the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Gray is married and lives with his wife and their child in Seattle. George A. Manfredi, 31, Counsel. He is a partner in the Los Angeles law firm of Costello, Manfredi & Thorpe. He is a cum laude graduate of Brown University and graduated from the New York University School of Law in 1969 where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Managing Editor of the New York University Law Review. Mr. Manfredi and his wife reside with their two children in Palos Verdes Estates, California. James N. Roethe, 33, Counsel. He is associated with the San Francisco law firm of Pillsbury, Madison and Sutro. Mr. Roethe is a native of Wisconsin, graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1964 and from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1967, where he was second in his class. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Wisconsin Law Review dr 1966-67 -and is a member of the Order of the Coif. Mr. Roethe and his wife reside with their two children in Orinda, California. (MORE) - 3 - James Burton Weidner, 32, Counsel. He is a partner in the New York City law firm of Rogers & Wells. He is a graduate of Bowdoin College, 1964, and the Cornell Law School, 1967, where he was a winner of the first year and second year Moot Court Competitions and a finalist in the third year Moot Court Competition. He joined his present firm in 1967 and has been engaged primarily in trial practice. Mr. Weidner and his wife reside in New York City. Ronald J. Greene, 32, Special Counsel. He is an attorney with the Washington, D. C. law firm of Wilmer, Cutler, and Pickering. Mr. Greene was graduated summa cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1968, where he received the Fay Diploma and Sears Prize for ranking first in his class. He also served as Note Editor of the Harvard Law Review. He graduated from Harvard College in 1964, magna cum laude, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In 1968 and 1969, he was a law clerk to Mr. Justice Thurgood Marshall of the U.S. Supreme Court. He is married and lives with his wife and their two children in Falls Church, Virginia. # # #
