THE WHITE HOUSE
The President today announced his intention to nominate Albert B. Fletcher,
of Junction City, Kansas, to be a Judge to the United States Court of
Military Appeals for the remainder of a term expiring May 1, 1986. He
will succeed Robert M. Duncan who resigned effective June 11, 1974. He
was subsequently appointed United States District Judge for the Southern
District of Ohio. The President will also designate Judge Fletcher Chief
Judge of the United States Court of Military Appeals once he is confirmed
by the Senate.
Since 1961, Judge Fletcher has been District Judge, Division
2, Eighth Judicial District for the State of Kansas. From 1951 to 1961,
he was a practicing attorney in Kansas.
Judge Fletcher was born on September 8, 1925, in Arkansas City, Kansas.
He received his B.S. degree in 1948 from Kansas State University and
his J.D. degree from Washburn University in 1951. He served in the
United States Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945. He is a member of the
American Bar Association and the Kansas Bar Association.
Judge Fletcher is married to the former Joan Vinaroff and they have three
children.
