THE WHITE HOUSE
The President today announced the appointment of two persons as members
of the National Capital Planning Commission. They are:
Caroline Freeland, of Bethesda, Maryland,
Planning and Development Consultant, Bethesda,
Maryland. This is for a term expiring January
1, 1979.
David Magie Childs, of the District of Columbia,
Associate Partner in the firm of Skidmore, Owings,,
and Merrill, Washington, D.C. This is for a term
expiring January 1, 1981.
The President today also designated Mr. Childs to serve as Chairman.
The Commission was reorganized by Public Law 93-198 of December 24,
1973 and now consists of twelve members.
The purpose of the Commission is to prepare and adopt a comprehensive
consistent, and coordinated plan for the National Capital.
The Commission was established as the central planning agency for the
Federal Government in the National Capital, for the purpose of preserving
the important natural and historical features.
