THE WHITE HOUSE
STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
The President is extremely gratified by House and Senate
approval of the United States - Romanian Trade Agreement.
This action clears the way to extension of most favord nation
and other normal trade terms to Romania and is in keeping
with the generally favorable development of United States -
Romanian relations in recent years. On the eve of the President's
visit to Bucharest at the conclusion of the CSCE in Helsinki, this
expression of Congressional approval reflects the broad support
in both the Executive and Legislative Branches for the President's
policy of promoting closer ties between the United States and
Romania,
