Vice President Rockefeller today announced the appointment of
R. Heath Larry, Pittsburgh industrialist, as a Counsellor to the
Vice President on productivity matters. Mr. Larry will serve
without compensation and on a part-time basis.
Mr. Larry, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of United States
Steel Corporation since 1969, is a presidential appointee to the
National Commission on Productivity and Work Quality and his work
with the Vice President will be related to this Commission.
Mr. Larry is Chairman of the Labor-Management Relations Committee
of the National Association of Manufacturers and a regional Vice
President of NAM.
Active in national and community affairs, he is on the Committee
for Economic Development and is a member of the President's Labor-
Management Committee.
Mr. Larry also is Chairman of the International Trade Committee of
the American Iron and Steel Institute; a director of the Foreign
Policy Association; of the Highway Users Federation for Safety and
Mobility; of the International Executive Corps, and the Bituminous
Coal Operators Association. He is a trustee of the U. S. Council
of the International Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the
Council on Foreign Relations.
Mr. Larry came to U. S. Steel's National Tube Company from private
law practice in 1938 and served as secretary and general attorney
to that company before being transferred in 1948 to the U. S. Steel
Corporation. He became Assistant General Solicitor of U. S. Steel
in 1952, a position he held for six years before becoming
Administrative Vice President-Labor Relations. On December 7, 1966,
he was elected Executive Vice President and Assistant to the
Chairman of the Board of U. S. Steel.
R. Heath Larry was born February 24, 1914 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania
and was graduated with honors in 1934 from Grove City College. He
received a law degree in 1937 from the University of Pittsburgh,
where he was editor of the Law Review and a member of the Order
of the Coif.
Mr. Larry also holds memberships in the Pennsylvania Society, the
Pilgrims of the United States and the Newcomen Society and
serves on the Board of the Business Committee for the Arts, as a
director of the Pittsburgh Opera and as Chairman of the Board of
Trustees of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry live in Mt. Lebanon, a suberb of Pittsburgh.
