POOL REPORT NO. 1
August 30, 1975
Andrews Air Force Base to Brunswick Naval Air Station
Trip in DC-9 uneventful and very much apart from the action.
Larry Speakes offered following from trip briefing notes:
Benefit to be attended is for the Pineland Hospital and
training center for retarded children. Hope to raise $50,000.
Open to public with $1 donations requested. Days events
began at 7 a.m. with five-mile walkathon. About 400 par-
ticipants including Governor Longley and the Maine
Congressional delegation. Also a chicken barbecue and
entertainment. The GOP reception which follows is a $250
per person affair with about 50 expected. Afterward comes
a $50 per plate luncheon with 600 expected. In Newport,
reception will be on grounds of the "cottage" (small estate)
of Mrs. John J. Slocum. Ford was to have attended similar
event in '74 but Rocky went instead as Ford had just
become President. Lawn reception $125 including dinner.
The television interview will be at the Sheraton-Islander
Motel at Newport Harbor.
