NOTICE TO THE PRESS
The President has signed S. 233 -- For the relief of North Central
Educational Television, Incorporated.
This bill will pay $23,288.92 to North Central Educational Television,
Incorporated, in full settlement of its claims against the United States.
This is for reimbursement for expenses caused by an error on the part of
personnel of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in connection
with the Corporation's application for a television station. It also prohibits
payment of any of the funds to an agent or attorney for services rendered
in connection with the claim and makes violation of any of the provisions
of the bill a misdemeanor.
The President has signed H.R. 568 -- Adoption of an alien child by
an unmarried U.S. citizen. This bill grants an alien child adopted
by an unmarried U.S. citizen the same immigrant status as an alien
child adopted by a U.S. married couple.
H.R. 568 amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to accord unmarried
U.S. citizens the same standing as married couples in the adoption of
minor alien orphans. The bill also requires that (a) the unmarried
citizen must be at least twenty-five years of age, and (b) the Attorney
General must be satisfied that both the single and married citizens will
provide the children with proper care if admitted to the United States.
