PST\nTHE PRESIDENT: Good morning, everybody. It\nis nice to be in Fresno. We have had a good day and a half\nin California. Any of you with the local press that would\nlike to ask questions, I would be delighted to try and respond.\nQUESTION: After a day and a half, are you ready\nto predict how you will do?\nTHE PRESIDENT: I think we have to recognize for\npractical reasons we started from behind, but I am very\nimpressed with the people that are heading up the organization\nand I am encouraged by what I understand are the great,\ngreat many volunteers that are participating and I think\nby the time the primary comes in June we will be in very\ngood shape, and we will sure do our best.\nQUESTION: If you are nominated, would you consider\nGovernor Reagan as your running mate?\nTHE PRESIDENT: As I have said a good many times,\nwe have many, many outstanding Republicans who are potentially\noutstanding Vice Presidential candidates and certainly\nGovernor Reagan would fit on that list without a question.\nQUESTION: Mr. President, NBC News has reported\nsome teamster officials feel that they are immune from\ninvestigational prosecution by your Administration. Do you\nhave any response to that?\nTHE PRESIDENT: Anything that involves a criminal\ninvestigation or prosectuion I don't think it is appropriate\nfor me to comment on. We have an outstanding Attorney\nGeneral in Ed Levi and I am sure he will handle it properly.\nI am sure that he will maintain the high standard that\nEd Levi is known for.\nMORE\nPage 2\nQUESTION: Now that Mr. Carter is considered\na serious contender, do you plan to do anything differently?\nTHE PRESIDENT: Not at all. We are concentrating\non the Republican side and I will let my good Democratic\nfriends resolve their problems.\nQUESTION: Mr. President, Woodward and Bernstein\nhave been quoted quite a lot from their latest book saying\nformer President Nixon had been threatening suicide. and\ndrinking heavily in his last days. Could you comment at all\non that?\nTHE PRESIDENT: I have not read the book. I can\nonly say in my personal experiences in those last few days\nI saw no evidence of it.\nIt is very nice to see you all. It is beautiful\nhere in Fresno.
