Press Pool Report #3 - President Ford's tour of Archbishop Bergan-
Mercy Hospital
Looking a little sheepish, President Ford walked through the maternity
section of Bergan-Mercy Hospital and then stopped briefly in front of the
windows by the newborn babies, where they were held up for his approving
glances. The President turned to his hospital hosts and said, "I've done
this four times before." The President took an elevator ride down to the
radiology department where he was shown the "cadillac" of cobalt treat-
ment machines. Although the apparatus is not the type used by Betty Ford
following her cancer surgery, the President did tell the doctor about the
chemotherapy she takes every five months, and reported she has no ill
effects.
He then proceeded outside to the hospital greundbreaking ceremony.
