Ford Presidential Library\nJUNE 11, 1976\nOffice of the White House Press Secretary\nNOTICE TO THE PRESS\nThe President today declared a major disaster for the State\nof Georgia as a result of severe storms and flooding begin-\nning about May 28, 1976, which caused extensive public,\nprivate, and agricultural property damage. The President's\naction will permit the use of Federal funds in relief and\nrecovery efforts in designated areas of the State.\nFederal assistance from the President's Disaster Relief Fund\nwill consist primarily of temporary housing, disaster unem-\nployment assistance payments to those who lost their jobs as\na result of the storms and flooding, debris removal, and\nthe repair or restoration of damaged or destroyed streets,\nroads, bridges, and public facilities and utilities. Low-\ninterest rate disaster loans will be made available by the\nSmall Business Administration, and emergency loan assistance\nwill be made available by the Farmers Home Administration.\nFederal relief activities in Georgia will be coordinated\nby the Federal Disaster Assistance Administration, Department\nof Housing and Urban Development, under the direction of\nAdministrator Thomas P. Dunne. Mr. Dunne will designate\nthe specific areas within the State eligible for Federal\nassistance, based upon Federal and State damage assessments.\nMr. Thomas P. Credle, Regional Director of the Federal Disaster\nAssistance Administration, HUD Region IV, will be designated\nas the Federal Coordinating Officer to work with the State in\nproviding Federal disaster assistance under the Disaster Relief\nAct of 1974, Public Law 93-288.\n#\n#\n#\nNOTE:\nADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM FDAA:\n(202) 634-6666."
