THE WHITE HOUSE
The President today announced his intention to nominate Robert C. Chase,
of Alexandria, Virginia, to be Deputy Director of the Community Services
Administration. This is a new position established by Public Law 93-644
of January 4, 1975. Mr. Chase has been Deputy Assistant Secretary for
Employment Standards Administration in the Department of Labor since April
1974.
Born on October 27, 1937, in Westwood, Massachusetts, Mr. Chase received
his B.A. degree from Connecticut Wesleyan University in 1959. He attended
Syracuse University and received his M.P.A. in 1960.
In 1961, Mr. Chase joined the Peace Corps as a Program Development Officer.
From 1963 to 1965, he was an International Relations Officer for A.I.D. He
was Chief of the South Asia Loan Division for A.I.D. from 1965 to 1969.
During 1970-71, he was Special Assistant to the Secretary of Labor for Policy,
Evaluation, and Research, prior to becoming Director of the Special Projects
Staff of the Office of the Under Secretary and served as Deputy Director of
Predecessor, Welfare Reform Planning Staff in 1971. He was Executive
Assistant to the Under Secretary of Labor during 1973-74.
Mr. Chase is married to the former Joan Stanford and they have two children.
