THE WHITE HOUSE
The President today announced the appointment of six persons as members
of the National Cancer Advisory Board for terms expiring March 9, 1982.
They are:
Bruce N. Ames, of Berkeley, California, Professor of Biochemistry,
University of California at Berkeley. He succeeds Irving M. London,
whose term has expired.
Harold Amos, of Boston, Massachusetts, Maude and Lillian Professor
of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and Chairman of the Department
of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Harvard Medical School. This
is a reappointment.
Mrs. Vincent Lombardi, of Manalapan, Florida. She succeeds Donald
Johnson, whose term has expired.
Henry C. Pitot, of Madison, Wisconsin, Director, McArdle Laboratory
for Cancer Research, Professor of Oncology and Pathology, University
of Wisconsin Medical School. He succeeds Gerald Murphy, whose term
has expired.
Frederick Seitz, of New York, New York, President, Rockefeller Uni-
versity. He succeeds Elmer Bobst, whose term has expired.
Philippe Shubik, of Omaha, Nebraska, Director, Eppley Institute for
Research in Cancer, University of Nebraska. This is a reappointment.
The President today also redesignated Jonathan E. Rhoads as Chairman of
the Board.
The Board consists of the Secretary of HEW, Director of the National Insti-
tutes of Health, Chief medical officer of the Veterans' Administration (or his
designee) and a medical officer designated by the Secretary of Defense and 18
members appointed by the President for staggered terms of six years.
The Board advises the Director of the National Cancer Institute, Frank Joseph
Rauscher, Jr., with regard to the National Cancer Program.
