    Digitized from Box 30 of the White House Press Releases at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library BRIEFING NOTES August 19, 1976 3: a. m. LID There is a lid until 10:00 a.m. this morning. VICE PRESIDENT What that means is that the President will announce ANNOUNCEMENT his choice as a runningmate some time after 10 -- it could be 11 -- it may even be 12. The President will come to the Briefing Room and he will have his choice for Vice President with him. The President is conducting a staff meeting now. The prime discussion at that meeting with his staff (Ron did not indicate who was present) is the selection of a Vice Presidential candidate. ACCEPTANCE SPEECH For Friday a.m. release. NOMINATION The President received two calls immediately after NOTES he received the nomination. The first was from Vice President Rockefeller. The second was from Barry Goldwater. It is traditional that a group comes to the candidate to inform him that he has received the nomination. The group arrived at about 2:30, headed by Senator Griffin, and including 14 others. They were wearing their red and yellow baseball caps. Some of them asked the President to autograph the caps, and he did. Griffn said, Mr. President, we have come here to tell you you were nominated tonight, in case you didn't know it.
