Ford Presidential Library\nFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\nSEPTEMBER 16, 1976\nOffice of the White House Press Secretary\nTHE WHITE HOUSE\nThe President today announced his intention to nominate Edward E. Masters,\nof Savannah, Ohio, to be Ambassador to the People's Republic of Bangladesh.\nHe will succeed Davis Eugene Boster who was recently nominated to be Am-\nbassador to Guatemala. Mr. Masters has been Deputy Chief of Mission in\nBangkok since 1971.\nBorn on June 21, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Masters received his A.B.\ndegree in 1948 from George Washington University and his M.A. from the\nFletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. From 1943 to 1946, he was in the\nUnited States Army.\nMr. Masters entered the Department of State in 1949 as a clerk-typist, and\nlater became an Intelligence Research Analyst. From 1950 to 1952, he was\nResident Officer and then was Military Liaison Officer in Frankfurt. He was\nPolitical Officer in Karachi during 1953-54. From 1955 to 1958, he was Political\nOfficer in Madras and served as Intelligence Research Specialist from 1958 to\n1960 and from 1960 to 1962 he was Chief of Indonesia-Malaya Branch of the\nOffice of Intelligence Research Analysis for Asia, prior to becoming an Inter-\nnational Economist at the State Department. He became Officer in Charge of\nThailand Affairs in 1962, and during 1963-64, attended the National War College.\nIn 1964, Mr. Masters became Counselor for Political Affairs in Djakarta.\nFrom 1968 to 1970, he was Country Director for Indonesian Affairs and during\n1970-71, he was Director of the Office of Regional Affairs in the Bureau of\nEast Asian and Pacific Affairs.\nMr. Masters is married to the former Allene Roche and they have two\nchildren.\n#\n#\n#"
