Ford Presidential Library SEPTEMBER 23, 1976 Office of the White House Press Secretary NOTICE TO THE PRESS The President today designated five persons as Personal Representative and Representatives to the ceremonies incident to the Tenth Anniversary of the independence of Botswana and Lesotho. They are: Personal Representative with the rank of Special Ambassador to head the United States Delegations to the two independence ceremonies. William E. Schaufele, Jr., Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs. Representatives with the rank of Special Ambassador to attend the ceremonies at Gaborone. Benjamin Franklin Marsh, of Toledo, Ohio, partner with the law firm of Ritter, Boesel, Robinson and Marsh. Vernon E. Jordan, Jr., of New York, New York, Executive Director of the National Urban League. Francesco J. Alberti, Jr., American Charge d'Affaires ad interim at Gaborone. Representative with the rank of Special Ambassador, to attend the ceremonies at Maseru. Birney A. St okes, Charge d'Affaires ad interim at Maseru. The celebrations will be held September 28 through September 30 at Gaborone, Botswana, and from October 4 through October 6 at Maseru, Lesotho. # # #
